Is outbox for pending messages that haven't been sent or is it for messages that have not been transmitted (similar to Gmail or email layouts)?

I saw another thread here that said outbox is for unread messages? I'm lost, just want to make sure my PM's are going through

Wow, good to know. I though it would have been similar to outboxes in email. I have looked like a dumbass many, many times then lol
