Review of Gaia Red Borneo from 2016!

Post by pray4peace4 »

Yes, you read that right. This is a review of a strain I bought in 2016 that I never tried. I've been going over all my accumulated 57 strains since 2016 & trying each one out. I found this unopened kilo of Gaia's Red Borneo & thought you might enjoy a review of such an old batch of virgin kratom.

It's brown & definitely a bentuagie. It has that overpowering rotten chocolate flavor that I despise. I've been on a long stretch of STH strains which are quite powerful, but I needed a change. I was expecting to be disappointed going to a Gaia strain from powerful stuff, but that isn't what happened. This strain is really unique. I was hoping it would be able to kill the wd symptoms from going all night without a dose of strong kratom, & chugged down the yukky brew. In 10 minutes that inner tension melted away & I felt pleasantly relaxed, yet a little zippy. There was a different kind of tingly feeling all over that I've only experienced once before when I took my first dose of kratom. That lasted about 4 hours. That was all, which was fine as all I wanted from it was a relaxed feeling.

Gaia wasn't known for earth shakingly great kratom, even so this was kratom from back before the kratom trees were over-harvested, & I wanted to compare it with current strains. It took 4 days of dosing to get the full effects. Today the morning dose gave that wonderfully happy mood we all love. I'm at the 2 hour mark & it's still ramping up. And there's a richness to it that I haven't had in many years. It's hard to explain. I've never had a bent that worked this well. All in all I'm quite pleased at my discovery, & here's proof that kratom doesn't degrade, at least after 7 years of storage. And to top off this great experience, I'm putting a ribeye roast in the oven to cook for 6 hours @200⁰ for a culinary delight for Sunday dinner. What a great day!

Thanks for that reminder about Gaia. That was the first supplier I ordered from in 2016. I had a really good experience with them. I still have probably 1/2 kg in capsules of one of their white strains. I experienced strain 'burn out' with this strain from not having learned yet about rotating strains and vendors. I have bags of SOCAL and Botanical Bunny from ~2017 that never worked for me at the time. I discovered Liza's and Smileys- which are still on my top vendor list. I also really liked Canopy and Mystic Island back then. Mystic Island's Gandolf and Peridot are excellent. I am very grateful that I discovered DoubleM....otherwise I'd probably be broke buying from Kratora and Kraken. (Both vendors had good product but were very expensive.) Maybe it's time to go back and try 8 year old strains.

Definitely do try your old stuff. I just opened another kilo of a Gaia strain from 2017... Red Thai. It's a dark brown oxidized strain, but doesn't taste fermented. Gaia wasn't known for great kratom back then & I know I wasn't finding them enjoyable, so that's why they're kickin' around in my pile unused. But this strain is kicking my butt! Mercy! If I found any vendor selling this, I'd rate it a 10. Last night, the first time I tried it, it was a little too energetic but I fell asleep OK. This morning it was perfect - no sleepiness, gave me that most valued effect - I wanted to do some projects & had plenty of energy. Took my afternoon dose & stared at the big fluffy clouds & realized if I didn't get up & do something I was going into Lala Land.

To me that's the perfect kratom. Makes me a productive person, gives me energy for projects, & gives me an exceptional mood, but it can help you go to sleep, too. What a great day this is, indeed!

I have an unopened bag of their purple 8-1 that everyone was raving about from around that time. I tried a sample I had of it and it never sat right with me. I should break into some of those older bags!

While I don't have any 2016 kratom, I still have some sealed bags (assorted vendors) from 2017 in my stash. They're basically collectors items at this point since that era is widely regarded as excellent for quality. Saving them for a rainy day.

That's awesome to hear, I don't have any stashed from this long ago. I did just want to chime in to say that Gaia was my first too.

I went with them for I think a couple years, and then went with some other vendor for a while. Can't remember the name, but they were from Texas, showed the average alkaloids (in an odd way, like averages from multiple strains I think?), I do remember seeing that they delivered locally which I thought was great. Although I am states away.

Now I just stick with benni

Wow, what a nostalgic and insightful review! It's amazing how a well-stored batch can hold up so well after all these years. The comparison to pre-overharvested kratom is especially interesting-sounds like you found a hidden gem. Enjoy that ribeye roast-it’s well-deserved after such a discovery!
