Mystic Island! ..done kinda disheveled.

I wrote this crazy really late at night as a response to a different post but when it came out so loooong I figured I should relocate it here. Might as well not let all that two finger typing go to waste!

First I should quickly note: I do not like extremely heavy sedating kratom strains or the overly stimulating "wired" energy types either. Ideally, I want a strain that is uplifting, motivating, moderately energetic with at least some pain relief, slight relaxation, and a ton of clarity/mood lift/euphoria!

My order was mostly Whites, Greens, Blends(w/g, all green, w/g/y,) AND Red Vietnam for good measure.

Unicorn vs Peridot(both w/g blends)
Although Unicorn is a heavy hitting customer fav. in most M.I. reviews.. PERIDOT is hands down my favorite blend!
Unicorn is a very energetic, strait forward, get stuff done kinda strain but I slightly one dimensional.. I would probably use it to energize and round out my slower more euphoric strains.
Peridot's effects are slightly less energetic but its clarity, mood lift/euphoria, anti-anxiety, and pain relief qualities are markedly higher! Online the description mentions it having a "sparkle" which is somehow perfectly accurate

Similar to Peridot, White Bali(noted M.I. fav!) & White Borneo (noted Jess fav!) also have happy/euphoric/feel good qualities. W.Borneo having a slight bit more energy and clarity than the W.Bali which has a cozier feel.

W.MD, like Unicorn, is a bit faster, slightly less euphoric, but it also has excellent clarity. I have been adding it to all my morning mixes (because I looooove clarity!) and really anything that needs a little pep!

Centaur is a great, best of all worlds, green blend, a bit less euphoric and energetic than the strains I previously mentioned but it is highly effective at calming the mind and steadying the nerves.

G.MDis energetic and motivating while G.Vietnam is calm and euphoric.

Next, Amethyst & Nymph..
Unfortunately, Amethyst turned out a bit too heavy/sleepy for me so I have only used it once or twice. I definitely knew when I ordered that this outcome was a likely possibility.
Nymph(w/g/r blend), on the other hand, turned out to be an unexpected favorite! Because of the red in this blend, I was worried it would also be too heavy/sleepy for me but It has a clear calm energy. It is definitely similar to my other favorites with the most notable difference being it was twice as effective on pain!

Lastly, Red Vietnam turned out to be a really great red for me! Kinda like Bentuangies, R.Vietnam provided moderate pain relief and excellent relaxation without much sedation.

That is -excellent- information, thank you! I have been wondering about how the various MI offerings shake out in regard to effects, not least because there are no vein colors associated with the blends and all the froo-froo New Agey crystals-and-incense astrological storybook creatures rising out of the mist text makes my brain shut down.

I know a lot of people are into that and I have zero against it IRL, I just can't read that mess as a description of kratom and get ANY sense of what the hell they're trying to say about the leaf. My eyes glaze over and I suddenly feel late for the short bus.

So THANK YOU! I know I'll be coming back to this page more than once as I try all the samples I recently ordered...

All this kept me from ordering from them for a long time. Well, they really do have some good leaf. And good prices. I've been missing out!

Matter of fact, I think I'll go partake of some New Age airy-fairy froo froo right now!

Now I just LOVE this reply...really did LOL...You must be closer to my age Whiff (or at least not too young of a "whiffersnapper", haha)...and yes, I felt that was a really nice review that had much useful intel. Makes me want to try some more stuff from M.I....I got an order from them when they were brand new on the scene...Not even sure if I tried all the blends I got. This convinces me to re-visit these guys again...Now if I can just remember where I stashed their leaf?

Whiffersnapper? Whiffersnaffer? (Or Whifflyplanets, when I need to test forum access as a regular user, heh.)

But you got it right, I -definitely- ain't young anymore! They should consider having alternate leaf descriptions for the astrologically and spiritually impaired, like me.

Great review and incredibly informative, thanks!

I'm about to place another mystic order and this breakdown of the various strains/blends you did is amazing.

I agree about the green vietnam - calm and euphoric is a great way to describe it. I also find it to be an excellent mood boost. I just burned some this morning actually and feeling great.

Going to try some red vietnam based on your recommendation. Sounds like a great daytime red.

SERIOUSLY all the froo froo and the not a peep for the original strains?! Aye aye.. I nearly broke my eyes staring at the descriptions trying to make sense of them, holy moly! I wish I knew who supplied them, such unique leaf.. I would SWEAR that it is sparkly, no joke... And smells so dang good.
I'm glad you guys could make sense of my crazy info bomb! Hahaha :D

Hey HerbalHippie, how is that green Vietnam? I was reading thru thread, and saw that it was calming/euphoric, which is up my alley. I’m about to order some samples from Mystic Island, and adding the GV. Does anybody have any other suggestions for any special strains or blends from MI?

That's exactly what it is, calm and euphoric. If I had the spare cash I'd definitely get more. :)

The green maeng da and Mermaid blend mixed is nice too, also slow and euphoric.

White maeng da if you like white strains. It's one of my favorite white strains in general.

Red bali if you like reds. Speaking of reds, I got the red vietnam in the mail today. Ordered it based off OP's recommendation. So I will be trying that next week and will let you know. But, I can definitely say the red bali is solid.

Green vietnam if you like greens. It's what I'm taking right now, and my mood is GREAT lol.

Mystic Vampire and Ruby for blends (both red blends I believe, although the vampire might have some green/white in it).

I just ran out of the Rwd Vietnam and it broke my heart.. I thought at one point I might have received a really fantastic bentuangie on accident.. but my Red Vietnam was light green.. So weird!!. And such a top-notch strain.. ;) I keep telli telling myself I want to try another vendor but I doubt its possible I honestly feel like I'd be completely disappointed!

So based on all of these posts, I made an order with Mystic Island. Have to say that I am impressed, and my regular vendors are DG and KOG. I basically got 10 samples (some already reviewed, some not), and then 4 125g bags of ones that you guys reviewed positively.

So far I've tried Peridot, Green Vietnam, and Nymph. Peridot is the clear winner so far... clean, clarity, energy, focus, hint of euphoria, but no real over-stimulation like I get from some pure whites. It is instantly one of my favorites and I wish I ordered more than the 125g bag I got. Thank you for the recommendation!

I surprisingly didnt get much out of green vietnam, but I think I'm overdue for a T-break, as a lot of potent strains just arnt hitting me latley (5g dose fyi).

Just burned phatcracker now, so we'll see where that goes this morning. They definitely have some unique products.

But one thing that I think someone else mentioned is the grind of the leaf. This is probably the most coarse grind I've seen. When I mix it in water, it even has some darker color pieces that might look like S&V? Or maybe this is just what coarsely ground leaf looks like? Its also pretty gritty, almost sand like texture. In the end I guess it doesnt matter, because the effects speak for itself.

I can update with my impressions of my other 10 samples all are interested.

I'm interested! I still have a lot of blends from mystic island I want to try, so any reviews are very helpful. :D

It's a shame the green vietnam didn't do anything for you. I don't even really like greens, but I really like that particular strain.

When I tried green Vietnam it was my last dose of the day (8pm), so I'll try it again earlier later next week. I personally have a lot of variables that affect my absorption, which could have played a role in my first impression. I dose 3x a day, about 8am, 2pm, 8pm. I also do intermittent fasting and bodybuilding, and eat massive amounts of food between 11 - 6 or 7, so I think my 8PM dose is too close to my dinner. Even if I wait 2-3 hours, I'm not getting much out of it. It seems to be absorbing much slower, so no effects are as pronounced unless its a red with a body load.

Ever since I started keeping a log of this, I'm noticing trends. Keeping an excel spreadsheet log is really helpful, I have a separate tabs for brief strain reviews, and dosing history/schedule with impressions.

In any case, I'll post an update in a few days after I've tried more of the samples.

Just got my split from them, and I’ll have to say any of their current leaf is superb. The Poseidon’s trident is exceptional though, fairly good energy but not jittery and extremely euphoric! For me at least :)

I finally placed an order at Mystic Island. I ordered the red Bali, vampire, Super Green, Yellow Thai. Can’t wait. I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas when I place an order with a variety.

Ok ok due to popular demand, I will provide some of my initial impressions from the MI strains I got. Sorry if these arnt in depth reviews, but they are just copy/paste from the spreadsheet I track of all my strains and doses. All doses were at 5g, but dosed around 5.2 on the vampire/ruby.

Strain, Rating (1-10). comments
Green Vietnam, 6. Didn’t feel much of anything. Not bad but not good either. Minor mood lift and anxiety relief. Don’t think this is a re-order.
Peridot, 8. Felt clean positive energy. Focused but clear headed. Slight body buzz. Not over stimulated. Second burn not as good but still solid.
Nymph, 6.5. Well rounded mid spec, not too in your face, positive mood.
Phatcracker, 6. Felt nice combination of energy and anti-anxiety, but not super noticeable effects. Felt well rounded and long lasting
Super Green, 4. Totally underwhelmed. Might be fatigue or tolerance issue though because took 5g of DG Premium Green Thai later and felt hardly anything.
Centaur, 7. Well balanced, mid spec green. Clear headed, good energy, good mood lift. Might be worth ordering next time
Ruby, 7.5. Great evening strain, very relaxing but not tiring. Great pain killing effects
Vampire, 7.5. Very nice evening red, mid to low spec but not sedating.

I still have 6 strains I havent tried yet. Going to try Yellow Topaz tomorrow. Still have Mermaid, Amethyst, Unicorn, Emreald, and red veitnam. I bought mostly 1oz samples, but did get 125g of the peridot, vampire, phatcracker, and nymph. Wish I got more of the vampire, peridot, and ruby.

OMG!.. I have been back and forth like crazy trying to decide on a yellow/yellow blend!! What did you think of Topaz??(my birthstone too!)
Sooo glad you felt Peridot was as good as I did! Hands down my fave! I liked adding a smidge of White Bali or Borneo to it to bump the euphoria and It was perfect. :D sometimes I weirdly second guess my own opinion with this stuff...
Actually, I just got ahold of a little RVA Gold Bali and I think Gold Bali + Peridot would be EPICsville!!.. Hmmmmm

Thank you so much for this little dollop of info.. I spent all yesterday completely perplexed on Big Red one Vs Poseidon's Trident cause I could find nothing on it anywhere! I really dislike heavy sedating strains so Reds are hard for me to blindly commit funds too..
But here, in my own post, was the exact little bit of knowledge I needed, the whole time :D
Thank you bunches!

Another great blend from them that's a green and red blend is mystic dwarf, my first dose of it honestly felt so relaxing and euphoric. It was like a bunch of little fairies were massaging my entire body. It was amazing. I say fairies because thinking of a bunch of dwarfs all over my body just feels awkward. And emerald was really amazing as well for a green blend. I will say the hardest time I have with mystic is to find the sweet spot for every single strain/blend. They all are different for me and seem to be the smaller doses are more magical. I find it strange because I have days where I take quite a few doses and they all hit me pretty hard.

What did you think of Topaz??(my birthstone too!)
Recently the guy who runs Mystic Island was on here and posted that his current day favorite is a blend of Yellow Topaz and White Bali, so when I ordered I got samples of both, and it was indeed a very rounded, smooth experience. Not fire, but just nice all around, decent legs, great for an every day burn.

The samples at MI are -really- well priced, so I ended up getting quite a few! Try those two and see if you like them. :D

JessK, the Yellow Topaz, out of the 8 strains I got on my 1st MI order is the one I've used the most from MI and I usually prefer the Originals as I blend my own almost every day. More on this below.

For those bewildered over the M.I. strain names, Easy remedy guys- just shop "Originals" and you're back to all the familiarity and comfort you you desire. Wherever they get their stock, it is sometimes processed differently that what I expect and that throws me sometimes, but one example that works out for me is the Bentuangie (not color indicated). It neither looks, nor smells nor tastes anything like a true bent but it's good. We might assume that it's green bent or red. Nah- it's just bent. and it's unlike the yellow, green or royal that I've had from elsewhere. It' not "better", it's just a different animal. It may take longer to take effect. I don't know how it is for pain. This one leans toward the confidence and esteem dept. Is depression a problem? Is for me. This can be very Very helpful. I've started using the word "visionary" to describe effects of this one. Think "out of the box".

As promised- Tellow Topaz (I got this last year probably in Oct or Nov). So Yellow Topaz helps solve a specific problem for me- when "fast" strains were no longer enough to kick my ass into gear, likely because anxiety were factoring in again and distracted me.
It has the grounded lack of reluctance and drive together so I can get out of my own way and Get It DONE, whatever that may be.
I have a feeling that you can appreciate this one, Jess but I can't know for sure. (I remember you from mewe, see you again soon). It's white and yellow combined. Whichever strain sources are used, it's a dynamo, but it stays close to the ground and on task. I only used this a couple of times by itself as it's been great in blends. Of course it's never exactly the same twice and situational factors apply but this is noteworthy ...
I was in motion from the start- more practical, motivated and in a word Unstoppable- and Bold / resourceful. I didn't let Anything get in my way. On the downside, I was a little impatient and in one case I got annoyed when someone wasn't as prompt and on the ball as I was (prompt & "all together" is uncharacteristic of me). So it has been a blend item since. Again, it's both grounding (very useful) and rather fast I'd say. I've started comparing whites and yellow combinations as a result of this blend so it kicked off a trend that I've been enjoying a lot.
