Well, most of you anyways.

It’s nice finding a community that actually feels like a community. Reddit has basically become the Walmart of Internet message boards. This place makes me nostalgic of some of the forums I used to post on circa 2005-2010.

Also, I’m running on zero sleep so please excuse my sentimentality.

Now that you mention it, the evolution of online forums and how we choose to communicate has definitely gone full circle.

Back in the early to mid 2000s, it was all smaller forums and message boards. Then, sites like digg/reddit/etc popped up and people seemed to migrate to these huge boards around 2010ish. They were the one stop shop for everything. But, how much is too much? When does the community aspect die off and get replaced with the fast food of information?

Over the past few years, I've noticed a huge spike in people switching back to smaller forums, facebook groups, discord channels, private slack groups, group chats on our phones, etc for that more community feel. The trend of how we share and communicate online has definitely gone full circle.

Some of the smaller communities I was a part of in the mid 2000s are seeming to come back to life. I visited an old forum I used to frequent (I basically lived on that forum lol) and people have actually started posting again for the first time in years. I think we're going to see the bigger sites fade away as people migrate back to smaller niche communities/forums/groups/chats/etc.

Well put, poison. I can attest to it...I’ve gotten super burned out on Reddit - social media in general. Some of my best memories from that time period were from some of the smaller forums I posted on. Back then I think the Internet was still spreading, and getting swept up in that wildfire was exciting; but now that we’ve already hit critical mass and crested over the peak, the novelty of complete anonymity/networking/etc. has worn off for a lot of us and we’ve - as you said - come full circle, back to one of our most basic human desires: community.

I think in these times we’re in that shift is especially apparent.
