We have been using the standard blue, 3 ply surgical masks that we get every time we have a doctor's appt (which has been too many times). They are always happy to give us a few to take home. But we are running out. At the nearby grocery store they sell 10 for $10.00!! That's just a blatant ripoff for disposable masks.
I have been all over Amazon looking for something decent and durable but when I see bad reviews (with photos) I don't feel good about ordering them. The 50 for $7.99 kind don't look safe. I'll add that I don't really trust 5 star Amazon reviews anymore owing to a certain person here who let us know that we could get free stuff from Amazon for writing fraudulent reviews.
So, has anyone had a good experience buying masks from Amazon? Any suggestions?

I don't think it's Amazon. I think it's the vendors on Amazon that push such a review system and Amazon tries to stop it. It takes some skepticism and effort, but you can weed out a lot of the fake 5 star reviews. Like if there is an abundance of 5 star reviews as well as 1 or 2 star reviews. Because if a product is truly 5 stars, it won't have many 1 or 2 stars. That's assuming though that the product has had enough people see and buy it.
Anyway, you could try a shop that alters clothing. We have one downtown and they make their own masks. The washable kind. They are tougher than the disposable ones and can be washed by hand meaning you can get them as clean as you're comfortable with. Or were you just looking for disposable masks?

www.alohamasks.com has many types like n95 / kn95 but I got a 50 pack of black disposables and a pack of 3 fashion masks which are pretty easy to breathe with.

I haven't bought any on Amazon but Costco has the surgical masks in blue and black $9.99 for 50
Thank You, HH.
We don't have a Costco - can you believe it?? Also no Home Depot and a dozen other stores everyone has heard of. It didn't even occur to me that I could just walk into Walmart or Target and look. I'm just so out of the habit of shopping.

Thanks Dylan. I have a sewing machine and have made a few masks but I'm too lazy to wash them. And yes to two masks! A cloth one over a disposable would be ideal, I think.

Ever since back in march of last year i heard Blue masks has fibers in it that cause lungs and health issue i been wearing gaiter masks. Any one did any study on the blue masks? We all know we cant trust china made stuff, covid originated from china so got to be careful. Not until someone study what they are made of and if its healthy i am not wearing them. There was few people at work who switched from work blue masks to cloth. One girl almost fainted gasping for air but nose and mouth was blocked, good thing i was near by to catch her behind. I asked her if she was alright, she looked at me dazzled and confused. I explained her how important Oxygen is and ever since she never had issues. Good thing on her way down she managed to peak her nose out.
The blue surgical disposable masks are highly unlikely to have the kind of "fibers" you're noting because they are not "woven". Furthermore, disposable masks have been approved as safer than regular cloth masks. I find it highly unlikely that anyone is 'breathing in' bits of polyurythane: you would feel it constricting your airways immediately.
But your rescue of a fainting co-worker sounds quite heroic (even romantic). Kudos.
