facebook fails

Good afternoon all :D

It's been awhile since I posted. It's reassuring to see familiar names when I pass through. It's good to see new folks too :D

I created a facebook page some years ago; lost my password and said "forget it" because the environment seemed intimidating and unfriendly. However, I just opened a new account and am very surprised at how UN-user friendly the platform still is. You'd think that in 18 years a group of supposedly brilliant techies could put something useful together.

My major complaint (right now) is that I haven't figured out how to post a poem. I like writing haikus, but - of course - as soon as you press "Enter" you post a message instead of just starting a new line of poetry. I'm showing my cluelessness here

Anyone know a work-around? Or maybe the solution is right in front of me.

Thank you :D

A friend of mine who writes alluded to doing her writing in apps like Wordpad or Notepad, and then copying and pasting that into the post she wanted to make on Facebook. I've tried that and it works.

Woooohoooo!!

Welcome back Greyfeather!!

Good rule of thumb is to always compose any message somewhere that auto saves which is Word Doc, Google Doc and others and then copy/paste. That is a steadfast must-do especially if you are as verbose as Kelley, forceful like Ballz or simply brilliant like me. All of us should make that habit.

I had drafted an amazing post while at work today, some little shit spit on the ground in the classroom and I 'lost' all of my manifes...um...ahem...I mean... data that was just ready for submitting. It was a scathing retort with just the right amount of anonymous keyboard hate but lost now due to confusion and no auto save.

Oh and I just checked out FB settings and you are right!! A shit show that feels circular.

I feel for you on that one.

Hi Greyfeather good to see you here.

On Windows, you want Ctrl-Enter ... to make a Line Feed. aka CRLF - Carriage Return Line feed (like on a typewriter lol) :P

AND "Shift Enter" also works on Windows. On phones ? Android, etc. and on older Mac, there was a CR key... not sure about Linux or unix :ugeek:

Thank You so much, IDI!! :D

Thanks everyone for replying and thank you for the greeting. :D

All of the advice here is excellent and I'll be experimenting with document editing platforms. In the short term I did discover the Shift+Enter trick. It's good enough for now, but I'd like to experiment with fonts and colors.

And I'm trying not to get facebookitis because, damn, it's addictive

Have a fabulous Labor Day weekend; let's all rest from our labors, have some kratom and I'd like to pass along this quote:
"The answer to addiction isn't [necessarily] sobriety; it's human connection."
Thank you for staying connected, folks :)
