let's make a board mix tape

I like seeing what people like listening to as music.

I also like the idea of a project that has an end result:
A link with our mix tape to listen to whenever.

There's so many different styles of music, personal tastes, and even what a music's purpose is for one.

Offhand I can think of:

1. Uplifting or happy music

2. Music to pump you up for a work out

3. Music to chill and relax to at home

4. Rainy day music or music that emphasizes the beauty of loneliness or being alone.

5. Nostalgic music

Out there ideas that might make people a little more involved:

6. Foreign language music

7. Acoustic covers

8. TV theme songs

9. Songs you would want the aliens to judge humanity by


(And obviously, there's a lot of overlapping here. The more out there a music category is, I think the more likely people will put work into searching out their submission, rather than breezing by, making a suggestion from a song they've heard a million times but not really being invested in the final product.)


What would people say to compiling an online mix tape? What platform should we use that's most easily accessible to anyone?

Should we start with one category of music (not necessarily one above) and depending on how it goes, eventually make a different mix tape? Should it be everyone gets to put in one (or two or three?) songs, or should we put together a list and vote for our favorites?

One takes more work but might be more cohesive and more polished. On the flip side, music on a playlist can be skipped if someone doesn't like that song so no big deal either way.

Maybe start by everyone making their own YouTube playlist of a set amount of songs. Then from that choose the best one or two from each person's and put a single one together that represents everyone. This would require a certain amount of participants, and for the participants to be willing to go and listen to everyone else's music. Am I getting that right?

Maybe. I don't mind playing ringleader but I also don't want to dictate. I could probably make a Spotify music playlist but not sure how to make a YouTube one (though I can look up how to.)

I would like to figure out some sort of cohesiveness which would mean settling on a category (which, if this is a success could lead to a different mix tape project later on.)

We don't have to go way out there in terms of specific category, but if we do, I think the results would probably be better because we would probably listen to music that is new to us as well before submitting our recommendation for the list. Plus if it generates addition discussion along the way discussing music even if that music doesn't wind up on the mix tape, then that would definitely be a positive side benefit.
