What are your favorite podcasts?
Just wondering what your favorite podcasts are? What do you like listening to?
Personally, I listen to a lot of story/audiodrama podcasts as those are my favorite. Below are some of my top picks. Will update with more if people are interested. Also looking for recommendations from other audiodrama fans!
-----
1) We're Alive - hands down, my #1 favorite podcast as it's the gold standard in audio storytelling. Audiodrama about a zombie apocalypse. Better written than most Hollywood blockbusters. Excellent sound design, voice actors, characters, and story. The entire 143 episode story (and 6 episode prequel) is complete so you can binge the whole thing from start to finish. They have a new podcast in the We're Alive universe coming this fall and I am super excited for it. I cannot praise this podcast enough.
2) The White Vault - my second favorite story podcast. A horror/thriller story about a research/repair team stranded in the arctic. Themes of hopelessness, isolation, and mystery. As you can guess, strange and surreal things occur when they're stuck in a research bunker in a frozen wasteland. Strong writing and excellent voice actors (even features some from The Nosleep Podcast!). Currently season one is available with more on the way.
3) The Magnus Archives - horror story anthology. While there's a clearly defined over-arching storyline, each episode is a self contained horror story with a very Lovecraftian flair. They've been going strong for years with no signs of stopping. Some of the episodes are incredibly creepy and they tend to stray away from generic horror cliches which is a huge plus in my book. Great narrator and high production value make this one of my favorite horror podcasts.
4) The Nosleep Podcast - horror story anthology. Each episode features a few original horror tales, some taken from the r/nosleep subreddit and others written by published horror authors. While some stories are definitely better than others, the production value of everything is super high. They've been around for a long time and keep improving. Also features incredibly strong voice actors - some of the best in the business in my opinion. New episode every Saturday and it's become a routine for me to listen to each one in the dark hours of the night.
... and, not story-related but...
Sleep with Me - a podcast that puts you to sleep. The monotone narrator intentionally drones on and on about the most bland and random things, often going off on tangents about other boring topics, with the sole intention of making you zone out and put you to sleep. As an insomniac, I recommend this podcast lol.

I’ve listened to a few true crime ones. S-Town was my favorite.
I tried listening to story ones, but I listen to podcasts in the background while doing other tasks, and have trouble concentrating and paying close enough attention to keep up with those. I tried the David Shwimmer produced one Homesick? They made it into a tv series I think. Seemed cool.

My favorite thing to listen to is Real News with David Knight, followed by the Alex Jones show if I’m in a special kind of mood. They are available in podcast form as well as video form.

Re: What are your favorite podcasts?
I understand that the Alex Jones show needs to be taken with a grain of salt and when I listen to his show, I’m primarily looking for entertainment value.beathappening wrote:You listen to Alex Jones...as a joke? Or do you take him seriously
That being said, I think that it is important to seek alternate media outlets and get a different perspective. Infowars was reporting on the harmful effects of glyphosate(Round-Up) long before any mainstream media outlet, and look now, everyone is shocked that it causes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Not to mention atrazine and the damaging effects that it has on all human/animal life. Everyone laughed at him for saying it turns frogs gay, but multiple scientific studies have come to the same conclusion. Here is a US government website that also confirms those findings: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2842049/
So before you cast Alex Jones or Infowars off as being a bunch of nut jobs, please give them a listen and look things up for yourself. Why do you think that the MSM is making such an effort to silence them?

I'm kind of a nerd. At work when I'm not listening to my metal/rock music, I'm listening to NPR or investing podcasts.
I manage our retirement accounts and find the stock market and investing fascinating. I think if I had it to do all over again, I would strive to either be a writer for Rolling Stone or a financial advisor. Or both
