Any luck with your garden?
I love tomatoes, every year, my brother comes over and plows up a garden, this year he put up 40 tomato plants,,,they were loaded with tomatoes, ,but the critters,,squirrels have devoured 2/3 of them, ITS ridiculous! ! There's a fence around it, wire, and he's done everything to try to keep them out,,THEY chew through the chicken wire, yesterday I seen 6 of them hanging in the plants, grabbing a lil green tomato and off they go! I sprayed them with red pepper and water mixed together, but that doesn't work,,He gave me a BB gun, like I'm supposed to sit outside and try to shoot squirrels, I can't shoot squirrels, ,a groundhog gets in too, he lives in the shed,,,my brother put up a trap to kill it,,but I fixed it so it won't work,,I like the groundhog,,, I gave him a name, anyhow I think we're better off going to farmers market, ,how do you squirrel proof a garden in a humane way??

The only option is to secure the garden itself better. Use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire. If you won't kill them you have to fortify! I use havahart traps and release them in the parks near my house. I kill the mice and rats. They get caught in havahart traps too. I shot them with a .22 pellet gun. We also have iguanas destroying everything. FWC has been running ads telling everyone to kill them as much as possible. They call them bamboo chicken and folks eat them too. They aren't bad but I think they are here to stay. They are destroying native populations of birds, plants, and other critters that use the banks on the canals. I also use a fake owl. You can wrap individual plants with nets and at least have those protected. Ive heard of motion activated sprinklers too. Peanut butter works best for squirrels and sardines for mice too. Good luck!
