Fireside Chat: All the Good Things

So things look kinda dark right now, what with feeling like we've been thrown into the jaws of uncertainty in a relatively short time. It still feels like yesterday, anyway :? The COVID 19 has me on edge, but I'm trying not to freak out. They say it will get worse before it gets better. I'm not much of an optimist anymore, but it's never too late to re-train the brain: build some new neural pathways, maybe some paths along a brighter road?

So I'm going to try to share something positive with the hope that I can feel more 'normal' buy talking about just 'normal' things. Please join in, if you like :D

About ten days ago we rented a chainsaw because the property we rent turns into the Amazon Jungle every summer and this year we are determined to nip all of the overgrowth (and poison ivy) in "the bud" lol. Mr. G gassed that bad boy up and took down a good dozen 'weed trees' and we also took out all of the mutated, overgrown shrubs. Now everything looks very bare but I am THRILLED because, with a bit of weed killer we will have destroyed that Evil Vegetation that has plagued us for 2 years. They keep telling us to "STAY INSIDE!!!" Wut? it's spring time. Are we not supposed to take a walk? Sit on the porch? It's going to rain for a few days, but after that I'm grabbing my shears and laying waste to every unwelcome sprout
For those of you who love to garden, my apologies. I have a brown thumb. We moved here during a blizzard so we had no idea what lay in wait. Now I'm wondering where I can find some DIRT CHEAP pebble/rock material to cover the strip of bare earth along one side of the house. Or maybe I can throw some seed for a "decorative grass that grows slowly."

It's springtime and nothing can stop that. I want to take ALL the walks and wash my car and sit in the nearby park and smoke some weed that is now legal and watch families having their Sunday picnics. And I WILL, my golly :D

Tell me something that makes YOU happy. Congratulate yourself for a job well done. Tell a joke or a story. This is our fireside: There are what - 2000 members here? Everyone is invited, no limits. Hugs are definitely encouraged

Yes yes!! Happy St. Pat's to you too, Pete and everyone here at Double M. Pour something out to celebrate (if you care to) and next year we will have a bigger parade and share all of the blarney, close-up and personal

I completely forgot it was St. Patrick's day, so Happy St. Patricks day!

For me, my "good thing" is video games. I can get lost for hours and take my mind off other things. I've been gaming since I was a little kid on the Commodore 64. It's something I've grown up with and find it's an anchor in my own life. It's a great escape from the tedium and grind of daily life.

Overall, I'm not too worried about getting corona myself, seeing as how I'm relatively young and healthy. I'm also following the guidelines of staying at home, out of public areas, and most importantly - entirely away from other people. Not hard to do as an introvert lol.

Hey! Thanks for dropping by, our Generous MM Host :D

I'm especially happy for this site and your terrific management of it. There really is no where else I can go to talk about kratom. I stood in a line for TWO HOURS at our town's only weed dispensary for the regular public: I did not end up liking the weed, which is why I guess I never became a user. Maybe better luck next time. Also, $60 for 3.5 GRAMS!!!! So many of us in line had lots of time to chat. Only one guy even knew what kratom was. Suddenly I felt like savvy kid in the house  . It was fun explaining to these 20-something guys what kratom is, why we love it, how it works and, WOW, how much you can get for $60

Thanks for giving us this place, e. I'm not really worried about the virus either. It's all the disruption the emergency is causing. I have a feeling that many many things will change in America now. I hope that they are good changes.

I play all sorts of games. Story heavy adventure games, horror, and survival are my favorites. Also, a good puzzle game or action RPG from time to time.

Currently playing No Man’s Sky. It’s a space survival/exploration/sandbox game where you can visit literally billions of different planets, buy and upgrade ships/gear, craft products to sell, build bases for farming, mining, and all kinds of cool stuff. It’s a procedurally generated universe that is quite literally endless. Each planet generates random and unique creatures, landscapes, etc. The devs are great and keep improving and expanding the game constantly.

Your like my older bro, his wife and 2 kids have all custom gaming pc's builds and most times they all game on free time. A gaming room alone just for that. He, all his life been a gamer and he even made his own game. If interested i can find out where its uploaded. My other bro tests the game. But i am the worst in coding and know not much about it. just never was my interest. He plays every single new game and anything to do like RPG or flying different planets and collect resources. Sometimes i ll stop by just to test out some new game for fun... they sure can get addictive, i spend most my life gaming away as well but stopped not long ago. World of warcraft, everquest was most my favorite games. I still play league of legends once in a while, if any one plays this feel free to join.

At some point I need a gaming pc. But I'll have to find a good one to buy, I'm not computer savvy enough to build one. I can work on multi-million dollar manufacturing machines all day, but the moment that the issue is in the computer part of the machine I have to step back and call for back up

Here's a nice story from Portland, Oregon (borrowed from yesterday's "The Takeout.com":

"One of the early byproducts of the distilling process is pure alcohol that’s undrinkable. Shine Distillery and Grill in Portland, Oregon, has been using that alcohol to make cleaning products, and recently, since the start of the hand sanitizer shortage related to the COVID-19 epidemic, its own homemade Purell. Shine’s sanitizer is 80 percent alcohol combined with xanthan gum and water.

Last week, owner Jon Poteet told KPTV, a customer asked if she could have some sanitizer since the product was nearly impossible to find in local stores. Rubbing alcohol, a key component in DIY sanitizer, has also disappeared from shelves. Poteet checked with authorities and learned that as long as he wasn’t making any medical claims or selling it, he was allowed to give it away. And so he has.

“Ultimately, I’m part of the community,” he said. “I want my friends and neighbors to be happy and healthy. All my neighbors getting sick and going down doesn’t do me any good. I want to be in a healthy community, and it feels good to be able to give back.”

And, yes, Poteet is aware that good old soap and water are still the best preventative for spreading germs. In Shine’s bathroom, he’s posted 20-second snippets of song lyrics that patrons can sing as they scrub."

And this isn't the only distillery pitching in. One in Scotland is also making and giving away their own sanitizer :D
