there's this.
I don't know how old you are, but in the 90's De La Soul was pretty awesome. Saw them at a club downtown and even got to smoke a Mexican Dirtweed joint with them when I was a kid...Oh, the dirtweed memories, amirite? This is a DJ playing where the songs were sampled from into the song from De La Soul Is Dead. Pretty fun. This guy also does Tribe's Midnight Marauders 25 (or 30?) as well and that's DEFINITELY worth a listen (and much more I haven't had time to check out.) That is, you know, if that's what you're after and all....

Re: Six feet apart
Yep. Syd was toast. He came to visit whilst they were recording this, apparently, but nobody recognized him as he was really chunky and completely bald. I was talking to a guy on a job the other day and he was saying he couldn't STAND Syds compositions, and I thought that was a little nuts. He was 100% founder (co-founder AT LEAST with Captain Beefheart [this dude was something else!]) of the psychedelia movement. Then they dropped his ass like a hot potato. A fat, bald hot potato.CatfatherB wrote:Pretty sure Syd was out of the band at that point.Happygoverment wrote:Wish you were here by avenge sevenfold a cover song of pink Floyd and syd barret a good one
To me, some of Syds stuff is just beautiful, and some....not so much. I think when you're that creative, you're just belting through the ideas so quickly (the good ones AND the bad ones) that a lot of nuance is lost. Check out Peel Sessions vs. Opel. Syds weird because we, as the consumer, can see (or hear) the decline of Syds mind, and it ain't pretty. Most people say that it wasn't the LSD that took him out of reality either, it was the Quaaludes. Man! I wish I could try a frickin' Quaalude! Twenty years ago, that is.
