Safety Not Guaranteed

I admit, I only watched it because of Aubrey Plaza, and I was not disappointed. I got Aubrey Plaza and her typical weirdo character. Story wise however it fell kind of flat and I felt like there were a lot of plot holes. Did not feel well put together. But her and the other main lead had a great performance. Definitely recommend if you have a thing for Aubrey Plaza like I do.

I can't remember which was the most recent so I'll name two! The director's cut of Zodiac, and the Netflix doc (which kind of counts as a movie, right?) American Murder: The Family Next Door. Zodiac was good, though I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't know anything about the case beforehand. I kept thinking "okay, when do we get to the part when [insert thing the Zodiac did IRL]" and it took me out of the movie at times. But that's a Me problem.

American Murder was... okay. There were pieces missing that I think would have made it stronger as a documentary but at the same time, I think it'd be hard enough to sit through as-is for most people. I can't recommend it to anyone who's not already into true crime stuff, and if they ARE into true crime, they probably know about the case already.

Gonna watch Birds of Prey sometime this week. I always meant to see it and never got around to it somehow.

Oxford murders.2 of the main characters are a philosophy professor and a student (Frodo). The dialogue in the first part really hit home, talking philosophically about "truth". What is truth? Is it possible? If 100 individuals witness an event all of their recollections will differ to one degree or another. The news/media disgusted me last year by a relentless overload of propaganda and misinformation, and by the end of the year I realized searching for truth was fruitless. Not being one to give up I decided to define what truth means to me, and after 6 months of exhaustive philosophical internal dialogue I found myself watching this movie, then realizing somehow the writer of this film plagiarized my thoughts word for word! To add insult to injury this movie was done many years ago, meaning he stole my thoughts years before I had them and made money in the process.

"Pig", the new Nicolas Cage one. I thought it was boring, very boring. Probably a 6 for all the components, like acting, cinematography, music etc, maybe even 6.5 or 7, it was technically well put together, it was just boring, there's no getting around that part ha-ha.

House Shark. Surprisingly fun movie. It's not good, just a fun watch with your spouse. It's aware of itself- that's what kind of movie it is. If you liked Anaconda but didn't need the celebs, you'll like this. Before that I watched all the Andy Sidaris movies again. They're terrible 90s Skinamax flicks, but super fun. Ever seen a bikini girl shoot an arrow at a boat and it blows up? You don't know you're missing this in your life. Even my wife loved them. They're so cliché they're brilliant.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It was good, but not what I expected from Tarantino for his final film. I mean, all the interesting wordy monologues and over-the-top dialogues were in place, but it was missing something I can't quite put my finger on. Only the last 15-20 minutes or so were his signature style of sudden and extreme violence.

It definitely doesn't top Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.

Deep on Netflix. Some college kids sign up for a dangerous sleep study. I thought it was cute, for some reason I thought it would be a little more dark. Not the best ending, pretty predictable. I'm hoping to find a good movie tonight.

I watched 'A Promising Young Woman' and now I'm obsessed! I can't describe it without leaking the storyline out, whether it be a little or a lot, but multiple trailers are available on Youtube. I basically want to BE the protagonist--it is brilliantly done, and brilliantly acted.

It's a little dark. Okay, It's dark. But so am I!

Oh, and It's not a movie, but the streaming series Evil is entrancing. It is smart, scary, but isn't afraid to be a little playful at times or take itself too seriously. I'd recommend this, too. Maybe more, since Promising Young Woman is about gender and can be triggering.

Good Choice!

A Promising Young Woman was my second favorite feature of the year and I was disappointed that it didn't win Best Picture. It got Best Original Screenplay (which is also marvelous) though and, after all, Nomadland is pretty awesome too :D

Oh! I'm excited you know it! I spent days after, just thinking about the film and analysing its parts. And since someone said maybe Netflix counts, a favorite of mine is also there, and it felt like a movie--I watched it all at once--but I loved Russian Doll with Natasha Lyonne.

I want to be Natasha Lyonne. But without the history of heroin abuse and the catastrophic heart event from doing drugs.

If you liked Russian Doll I'd bet you would really like Orphan Black. One actress plays 6 or 7 other characters. The logistics of how the series was made are kind of mind-blowing. It's streaming on Amazon Prime :D

Anyone into anime?

Started watching Violet Evergarden which was suggested to me by Netflix

Did NOT expect the rampant pedophilia themes. Holy shit lol.

I am just supposed to accept a 14 year old and a 24yr old can have real love in an arranged marriage? Lol.

Main character also falls for the first guy who shows even a passing interest in her and he's also, of course, an older man.

What the fuck, Netflix?

Team America: World Police. Because it was on Netflix, I needed something on in the background while I worked on something. It'd been many years since my last viewing. It's still pretty funny, I think.

Some select series, yes. I'm a big fan of Dragon Ball, One Punch Man and Full Metal Alchemist (I greatly prefer Brotherhood). The Castlevania series on Netflix is pretty good. Inuyasha was good. And many more. I like animation in general quite a lot. You can get away with certain kinds of comedy in animation much easier than live action.

I watched the whole "Pusher" trilogy this week . The films that made Mads Mikkelsen the hero of Danish cinema that he is today. Mads is the star of the 2nd one . But , I absolutely loved them all . European Resevoir Dogs, or Pulp fiction . that is not accurate at all . One can never know how realistic a movie is , but , we all know there is a difference between drug dealers in Los Angelos and Copenhagen. these are damn good movies. The best gangster films I have watched since The Godfather . the first on is a mid level drug dealer gettin in over his head and behind on payments and the (poor) decisions he makes as he tries to keep his head above water. Ripping off Peter to pay Paul and then Peter comes over to settle the the score but then Edit (deleting cuz that was a spoiler 0 . . The second one is all about Mads and the fuck ups he makes try8ng to get into his fathers organized crime car thieving business. and the third is good too ,although I didnt appreciate the ending as much ,I did think that the re-occuring Serbian heroin dealer character was well played and I was happy to see more of him . Actually the 3rd one is really good too , I would have done a few things different but the character Milo was one of my favorites all the way .The actor Zlatko Buric, who plays Milo , was actually arrested for dealing heroin . and spent time prison in-between Pusher2 and Pusher3! It lends credence to the rumor that Nicolas Winding Refn let them all do real drugs during the filming . I still don't think that is true, these actors are professionals all the way . Solid performances all around . . I started out with the first one and streamed them all in 2 days . PRO TIP: If you have Shudder streaming all you have to do is change your VPN to Australia or New Zealand and you are good to go. Ireland might work too I don't remember .
