Is all Kratom becoming weak?

So I’ve used this plant since 2015 and just want to hear what other long term users of this plant think about what could be going on as to why it is all becoming weak. I’ve heard that because of the plants recent popularity that product is being rushed to get it to consumers before it has even matured but idk. What I can tell is that up until 2020ish I could actually feel the alkaloids on my tongue when toss n washing and now it just feels like nothing. Next to no buzz ever. Herbaldom used to be my go to before they went under in the 2010’s then I found mitragaia to be decent until their product also quickly degraded and now is the same as every other brand I’ve tried. I never messed with concentrates, I just love good quality leaf and it seems to be nonexistent. I see people get excited for batches now in forums. Is that what’s it’s come to.. you have to be quick enough to (HOPEFULLY) get one decent batch? It all used to be effective. Sure some didn’t quite buzz the way you hoped but they were all actually doing something. I took a year off a few years back to see if it was my tolerance and no it’s just all junk now it seems. Sorry to ramble but I just want to see if anyone else is thinking something similar. I just ordered some regular old maeng da from lucky herbals so I’ll see how that goes.

Yeah I think it's mostly rushed leaf from plantations instead of Old Growth and whatever new method they used to sterilize the kratom could be killing some of the alkaloids. I bought an Old Growth strain this year (sold out now, of course) and it gives you that full body hit instead of just slight mood lift.

Some of my favorite strains came after 2020 (DTE Wild Red Sakit A13 for example. 2023 for whatever reason for a great year for kratom IMO), but yeah now you gotta go batch to batch and pick vendors that have >.500 average of decent leaf. Also felt like there were new vendors popping up left and right in the 2010s, but with the new regulations and all the paperwork bullshit who would even bother becoming a vendor in 2026?

The whole point was to make kratom less accessible.

----Tolerance explains this. Also, kratom (powder) is not a 'drug'. If yer feeling 'a buzz' past yer 5th or so usage of it, either you only take it once a month, or yer just using too much. And to be fair, 'too much' is a wide range. I use what I need to keep me feeling balanced, no buzz required, in fact that short early period of it was kind of alarming. Blaming kratom is drug talk, much like using the word 'buzz'. Maybe look at it, and what you use/take it for differently, and see that it just is what it always was.

Tolerance is probably number 1 reason. I do believe though with such widespread use the kratom of years ago has gone near extinct. The amount being harvested daily year round has probably made real old growth leaf near extinct in the market. Cost to get it at scale is probably much higher than from farms that grow it. The use has grown so much in the last 10 years it is crazy, and that means the bottom line has become more important to all exporters. I'm not saying that it is impossible to get great old growth high quality leaf, just very very very rare anymore.
Tolerance though again is a doozey though. Sometimes a break of a few weeks can help, other times it might take a few months. You brain and body has gotten used to what it does and starts taking it in stride, so even after a break your body knows what it is and how to handle it. If you just keep taking higher doses it will really screw it up, and most likely make you sick/dizzy etc sometimes. Nothing is perfect forever, and chasing the dragon of the "first time" of anything has gotten millions of people to go down bad roads.
Closest you can get is stopping for like a month or two or more.

I don’t think it’s getting “weaker” in general per se. There are still a lot of great vendors out there who source excellent kratom, but the overall market is definitely getting diluted with many more bulk indo suppliers. I think it felt stronger around 2017-18 because the market was tighter and it wasn’t so mainstream yet.

A couple months ago when I found an old pile of kilos hiding in my basement & there were 2 kilos of 2017 PMD from Herbal RVA, that monster of a strain, immediately yanked it up & tried it. Oh man! What an amazing leaf! I hadn't found any kratom since then that could compare. And now I found 5 more kilos of it stashed away in other parts of my basement. I feel rich! But I brought it up, not to make everybody want some, but to confirm the quality of leaf today isn't the same as 10 years ago. Had my body's receptors been burnt out by 10 years of use, then why did this 9 year old strain knock my socks off? There's far more crummy leaf today than back then.

But there's something else that's going on, too. I've noticed that some strains impair the effects of different strains. If I've been taking strain A for a week, strain B, which I really like, no longer has any effect. I have to stop using strain A for a week or so before B starts working again. Remember that there's 26 or so different alkaloids in kratom, & some of the alkaloids cancel out or temper the effects of mitragynine & other components. So be patient with your strains & keep trying them.

What's the solution? For me... Smiley is my current favorite. He has a few really super strains that rival the best from 10 years ago. His PMD is fantastic, giving me energy & a desire to work on projects. His Red Smile is sometimes great, sometimes not, but when it's hot, it's incredible. His Red Bali is a favorite because it helps me sleep & lowers my blood pressure.
