Hey gang, I am harvesting my 2 1/2 year old, 15 foot tall Mother Tree this weekend. If anyone wants some fresh leaves, just for the heck of it, let me know. A few bucks and shipping and I can get them out first of the week. I make no promises of potency at all, since the tree is still very young. Well, ya know it may have just a little...I chewed some in the middle of cutting the front and back yard the other day, and it relieved my pain somewhat, and kept me going pretty good. Honestly I have a HUGE tolerance, so it's often hard to tell the nuances. I do have high hopes for potency improvement of this tree in a year or 2. It finally got a couple small flowers this year, so it is maturing in more than size now.

Just got these in, nibbled on a few and definitely felt that numbness. No sun around here so drying half in dehydrator and half in paper towels we’ll see how they turn out. Thanks for offering I thought I’d never see them fresh at a good price.

OMG those leaves are beautiful!! I don't think my mouth is numb though. I can tell you that Kratom leaves don't taste quite as bad as peyote buttons, but they're pretty bad.



Got a co-worker to try one too. She has fibromyalgia and I gave her a dose of Kratom once in awhile if she's hurting really bad. I said this is probably going to be the only chance you ever have in your life to chew on a fresh Kratom leaf! She spit it out after four chews.

LOL..that taste yo The tea i made left my mouth with a light numbness for about 10min . I'm going to put some in a sunny window and see what comes of it. It's been funny experimenting with them.

What's the best way to dry these?

My leaves are pretty close to dry. I was thinking about what I was going to do with them after that. Crush them with my hands? Grind them up in the food processor?

I was reading an old Saveur magazine last night and there was an article about gumbo. It showed this man grinding sassafras leaves to make file powder with a big mortar and pestle his grandfather had made out of cypress wood.

I have a large granite mortar and pestle that's only been used once to grind frozen frankincense resin (experiment in making my own incense), I think I'll use that!

If you want a fine powder, a coffee grinder is the way to go if you don't have a dedicated spice grinder, but mortar and pestle will definitely do the job. Try crushing it with your bare hand first, though: if it's dry enough the leaf will easily just crumble in your hand and you may not need anything at all to grind it.

This may be more than anyone wants to read, but I wrote this back in 2016 when I got some killer crushed leaf to play with...I have tweaked this and gotten some different mesh screens now that help, but this is a basic process that works well...and I have tried several different grinders, and the Nutri-Bullet with the seed grinder blade works best.

I was lucky enough to get 5 kgs of a beautiful Red Thai crushed leaf...the more stem and vein removed the stronger your final powder will be. The easiest thing to do is remove the S & V BEFORE you fully grind it...I use an old flour sifter (the one with a wire loop you crank to sift the flour through the lower screen)...put a cup or 2 of the leaf in the sifter and crank away...this will begin the grinding of the leaf and the screen will catch the large bits of stem and vein. Next I use one of the "splatter screens" (as seen on TV, haha), which is just a fine mesh screen...you can gently rub the "sifted" leaf over this screen and actually SEE the bits of vein being caught on top...dump the vein bits aside and continue till you "screen" all of the previously "sifted" leaf...now you can do the first grind of the "cleaned" leaf in a coffee grinder or better yet, a Nutri-Bullet machine (they have a special blade for grinding small seeds that works nicely for leaf)...use care and pulse the grinder to avoid too much heat buildup....then I pour this powder back on the splatter screen and just gently shake it..the leaf falls thru and you will see the tiny remaining vein particles staying on top of the screen (they will be a tannish color compared to the greener leaf material..you must do this gently as the vein pieces will fall through the screen along with the leaf if you aren't careful (an even SMALLER mesh screen would be helpful here, but I don't have one (yet) finer than the splatter screen)...You can do this several times until you have removed nearly ALL of the stem and vein. Now I will return the CLEANED leaf powder back to the bullet for final grinding...pulse it a few more times and you will soon have a talc like S & V FREE powder comparable to the BEST pre-ground powders you can buy. Sorry for the long post, but this WORKS...If you have crushed leaf, give this a try...it's well worth the little extra work...and of course you can save all the S & V material and re-grind it by itself for a nice S & V powder for tapering or extending a strong leaf powder.

Hey all, I thought that I'd throw a quickie link up for you from my "research vault". One time, I requested whole dried leaves from my farmer to try differing "mill sizes" with whole dried leaf chunks for tea, of course. I only tried it once, but it turned out pretty well. I put it in a mini-tutorial. As the first frame states, I used a 5g equivalent of "torn" leaf. That's the standard amount that I use in my tea tutorials. I was going to experiment with the size of leaf chunks and surface area compared to results of the tea.
