I was just sitting here thinking about how much better plain leaf used to be. I was thinking about how often the best batches always had a static charge when you first opened them. I sure miss the 2010-2018 powders.

I think it's the fact everything that comes in now is in 1+ ton batches, and is sterilized before it even leaves indo. We really didn't know how good we had it with super fresh, old growth back then. Hopefully Thailand will eventually fill the small batch market gap that was opened by Indonesian export regulations. It basically killed off all "small batch" farmers. It's super unfortunate too. After all the rubber plantations went down, this was finally a new cash crop for the small guy.

I think most kratom is now gamma sterilized. Ionizing radiation tends to disperse static charges. You can buy "static eliminators" containing a tiny amount of a low energy radioisotope that you run over a surface to eliminate static charges. I would think the gamma sterilization process would do the same thing.

It's likely this. Some of the best kratom I've ever bought came after 2018, whether it be the 2020 TFH leaf or Denette's crazy run in 2023 before he retired in 2024. He was sourcing greens with >2% mit and you could feel it.

The good stuff I've bought in the last year had some type of "old growth" in the title (like Old Growth Kapuas from LSMS) or it came from a new farmer as part of a larger batch.

I still have some sealed unopened 2017 bags. I do remember that era of leaf being incredible. So glad I saved those and didn’t give in to the temptation of opening them up.

Trust me, I’ve been tempted so many times. But I look them almost like collectors items lol.
