Ohio Update: Protecting Ohio

Kratom Warriors:

The meeting with the staff of the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, attended by AKA Senior Fellow on Public Policy, Mac Haddow, and one of the leading experts on kratom science in the world, Dr. Jack Henningfield, allowed for the case on the science to be made. The staff was respectful, but expressed their current view that the position of the FDA on the safety of kratom formed a sufficient basis for the Board of Pharmacy to proceed with a proposed rule on scheduling kratom.

The Board of Pharmacy staff did express their strong concerns about the content of some of the comments that were made by kratom advocates, including the use of inappropriate profanity and comments related to family members of the staff. While we expressed strong condemnation of such comments, it was clear that our message had been undermined by these deeply offensive messages.

We encourage every kratom supporter to be professional in future communications. These staffers and the Pharmacy Board Members should be accorded respect even if we disagree with conclusions or opinions they may hold.

If the Ohio Board of Pharmacy does proceed with their Resolution on the Classification of Kratom as a Schedule I Controlled Substance, it will trigger a review under Ohio's Common Sense Initiative, and then a subsequent review by a Joint Committee of the Legislature. The AKA will be vigilant in carrying our pro-kratom message during each stage of any review if necessitated by an action of the Board of Pharmacy.

This meeting was clear evidence of the power that is held by the FDA in disseminating inaccurate, incomplete, or deliberately deceptive information to state policy makers.

Dr. Henningfield definitively stated that the FDA is "wrong on the science" and "wrong on the policy" – and he had the signatures of 12 of the leading scientists in the world on kratom who argue that kratom should not be scheduled and that banning it would increase the number of deaths because kratom users would be forced to potentially deadly opioids or the "wild-west" of the black market where adulterated/tainted kratom products are completely unregulated.

We will keep you updated on every step of this battle in Ohio, so stay alert for additional information and advocacy alerts that AKA will send as it's needed.

It was clear that our message had been undermined by these deeply offensive messages.

Sucks that a "Board" full of un elected bureaucrats, are making a decision that affects so many lives .. People take their actions as a personal attack. Ohio is a Republican state where people voted for "Anti government" Republicans, and a Governor, Mike DeWine who ran on a Trump platform of "Drain the swamp" etc. Now they're doing EXACTLY the type of Big Government bullshit that DeWine ran against! Liars!

OTOH, We got a bunch of street drug addicts, many homeless, turning to kratom... Might wanna watch their MOUTH next time... Sounds like One Too Many "Fuck your Mother" phone calls - YOU just got kratom banned!! Thanks a lot Bro! Yes - Government assholes DO take things personally and make LAWS .. I don't doubt that some people used less than ideal language but jeez man that's not make that more important that the actual issue of kratom, science, and public health & safety.

They're a bunch of stuffed shirt frauds trying to play a cheap tactic and looking like hypocrites. When you resort to "Aum! He called me a name I pretty much look like so what he says doesn't count!" They really have nothing of merit and are playing kangaroo review, demanding to get thier way over the people's because "They said so!" and its embarassing.

So they commented on the handful (I’m guessing a significant minority) of emails that were inappropriate but had no comment on the other emails? I’m sure many kratom users, including myself, poured their souls in to those emails. But not a word about those? Just shows they are merely going through the motions. They’ve made the final decision before the process even began.
