My hair, it's falling out.
My hair has thinned quite noticeably in the year I've been using kratom. I didn't
realize just how much until I got it cut quite short last week. I bit the bullet and bought
some Nioxin products a few days ago (OMG THE COST) and some biotin capsules.
Anyone else have some hair loss and hopefully hair regrowth stories?

I´m only using kratom for few months, so no. Also, i´m rather old and (heredity is culprit) bald, so no data ever from me.

I am a woman or I might consider it. lol
I know other culprits can be age, vitamin deficiency, medications. Pretty sure it's kratom in my case.

I haven't noticed any kind of hair loss. But I keep my hair very short/shaved so it would be hard to tell.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
I've been using kratom for 4 years, at one point dosing heavily and I've never noticed any abnormal hair loss. My hair is pretty long for a guy (neck length) so I would notice it if more was falling out. Idk if it has anything to do with it but I'm 31 and both of my grandfathers have (or had) full heads of hair. I have heard on other forums that people have had issues with kratom and hair loss so I've been paying attention but like I said, so far nothing drastic.

I for one think we should end the stigma associated with male baldness. It's dumb. If I go bald I will not be wasting time trying to grow it back.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
My hair was noticeably thinning when I first started kratom and for some reason it just stopped and went back to normal. I check it often just to be sure I don’t find any bald spots. So far things are good. However, it seems a trade off has occurred because now I’m getting zits around my chin area and the zit cream I keep plastering all over my face is making my skin super dry. I just can’t seem to win.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
I've seen a post about this problem before but only once. May not have been on kratom sub, rather- supplements but not sure.
Nothing here you don't know about but reflect..
Could be too much of something, or toxic build up of something but what else is going on?
Stress in any form much higher than typical or prolonged?
Not eating (facing that one myself)
Not sleeping enough? (that too)
1st things come to mind- Nutrition What is consumed for sure but also what is being depleted.
Consuming anything the inhibits absorption or production of something else?
Random (& wordy) example but it's a clue for someone out there..
Taking 5-HTP regularly to raise seretonin will suppress dopamine synthesis. Dopamine can go way down when
5htp is taken daily, setting off imbalance. Reverse is also true when taking Tyrosine to raise dopamine. Those are just amino precursurs.
High concentrations of many things can affect levels of others.
What about omega 3's vs. the other two (vegetable oils- the root of much unnecessary misery, countless inflammatory ailments & death.
What nutrients are we hearing about that are wise to supplement with regular kratom use? (I'd like any leads on this one myself. I hear magnesium?
In the right form it may help depression - does kratom deplete this?
Questions keep the windows open.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
I started taking magnesium after reading that daily omeprazole use can deplete your body of it. I had
been feeling depressed all that winter and magnesium really helped. I still take it almost every day
to keep constipation from kratom away.
I've been taking salmon oil for about three months, also niacin, and now biotin and D3. I need to get
a good multivitamin, I've been switching back and forth between high dose B complex and this
immune booster with a lot of vitamins and other goodies in it.

I noticed that my hair was thinning. My doctor knows that I work in a stressful job. He told me if there was any way to cut out additional stress, he thought it would be beneficial. I stopped dating and my hair is coming back. However now, I think I've contracted that tropical disease called, "Lakanookie". I've got to find some kind of balance.

You do. There's got to be something in between feast and famine.
I'm less stressed now than I was 2-3 years ago, so I don't think it's stress causing my hair loss.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
My hair has been falling out for about a decade or so but since I've been taking a lot of meds including a low dose chemo drug and considering my age and the fact that i've been using kratom for less than 2 yrs. I doubt that it is the major contributing factor for my forehead growing larger

Mine is not as thick as it used to be but I attributed that to menopause. There does seem to be several people on the kratom forums complaining that it causes hair loss, so I guess it is possible, or maybe it's a combination of things?

Good morning, Mama.
I'm post-menopausal but have been for years. I think my hair loss would have been noticeable long before this if that were the cause. Ran out of estrogen in 2008. I know exactly when because I ended up going to the hospital for an overnight for an extremely erratic heartbeat. I didn't know loss of estrogen could cause that! Was on a beta blocker for six months after until my body adjusted to the new normal.

I've never been on estrogen so I don't know what I'm missing
It could very well be the kratom causing it then. Hope the Nioxin works for you!

I've been noticing my legs getting smoother and shinier, and it just occurred to me that it could be hair loss. That really wouldn't bother me if it was the case, as my head hair is unaffected lol.

As I recall, you take a very small dose of kratom. Niacin, huh. Did your doctor prescribe it? I ask only because it can have toxic effects if you take more than you need. And... kratom is known to cause hair loss in some folks. You could stop for awhile & see if your hair comes back.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
Doctor did not prescribe it, I am taking it to try to lower cholesterol. It's no flush niacin, I think it's like slow release you you don't get the niacin hot flash. Niacin is water soluble, like all the B vitamins, so your body just flushes out what it can't use.pray4peace4 wrote:As I recall, you take a very small dose of kratom. Niacin, huh. Interestingly, one of the active ingredients in Nioxin hair products is niacin.
And... I just read that the form of niacin I'm taking does not lower cholesterol. I didn't realize there were multiple forms. I'm glad you mentioned that now or I wouldn't have checked into it. Thanks

its shedding. if you dont notice hairline recession with no new growth then it will grow back. shedding is just simply when the hair falls out faster, loss is when it doesn't grow back.

Well I've been shedding like a m**********r then. And I don't think it's growing back.
I don't see quite as much in my brush these days though. Maybe there is some hope.

You know, I'm wondering if the Kratom peeps who report that their hair is falling out, if it's because they are taking other meds with their Kratom... acetaminophen, ibuprofen ,Rx pain meds...whatever. Just something I've been thinking about.

Yes. 5 mg hydrocodone (usually one in the morning), ibuprofen (2 in the morning), Zantac 2x day, clonidine (1/2 pill 3x day), some vitamin supplements.

Thanks for the response and info., now if we can get others to chime in with this side effect and meds, maybe it would help to figure this out. I haven't had any issues with my hair, but I've only been drinking my Kratom tea for about a year, on and off.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
Herbal Hippie, my hair has definitely gotten thinner since starting Kratom about 3 yeas ago. I also have had alopecia on and off for about 10 years. That’s where a patch of hair will randomly fall out. But so far, it has always grown back in a couple months. I have had a couple of flair ups with alopecia since starting Kratom and for a while I was thinking of quitting - but then it grew back and I figured they may not be related anyway - so why stop?
But on the thinning and hair loss - I researched this a while back and saw a few others have experience this side effect, from what I read - most people said their hair went back to normal after stopping kratom. But still kinda concerning cause my hair is my best feature
Note: I’m a 31 yr old male. I’m also taking tagment to potentiate - 400mg 3x a day. I take 450mg of Wellbutrin for depression.

Re: My hair, it's falling out.
Thanks to a dear friend, I may have found out why my hair is falling out. Why kratom may cause hair loss.

I've been taking Zantac, which I recently found out can cause medication induced hair loss. I'm going to switch to tagamet and see if there's any difference.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Please report back to us on this. Like I said, the more people that respond to this thread, the better. Anyone that has had loss of hair issues, while taking kratom, please let us know what else you are taking. Thanks, Hippie.

Yeah. I'm losing too but I take 3 larger doses a day. I am trying to bring th amount down but was wondering if extracts would help/not cause hairloss. That is assuming mitra. Is not causing the hairloss
