That's just the latest in a long, long line of things, unfortunately. It's disgusting.
When my foot was broken this spring, could I find fresh, raw comfrey? You know, known to be effective for bone healing for hundreds of years? No, because back in the 80s some fool -- just one -- ate some insane amount of it and got liver failure for his troubles.
There can be literally tens of thousands who die from a given pharmaceutical and the worst that happens is the product is given a black box warning. But safe, effective, and non-patentable? BAN IT.
Honestly, even for all our vaunted healthcare, in this particular regard many other countries are better off than we are in the US. It's infuriating.
