I think there's going to be a big spike in cases after spring break. It's not only the twenty-somethings that are being reckless, I've talked to a lot of older adults that are still planning on traveling. A 65 year old guy I work with is going to Tampa.Greyfeather wrote:I'm very concerned about Florida right now: in particular those areas that host annual Spring Break events. As far as I can see, these areas are still eagerly welcoming students and making daily reservations/ putting together festivals, etc.MetalMamaRocks wrote:Well, I cancelled my reservations at the Smokies. I'm so sad, we've been planning this trip for 6 months. Every year we meet my step daughter and her family for a week. She lives in Florida and this is the only time we get to see them.
There hasn't been any reported cases in the area, but there will be people from all over the country there, and I just feel uneasy about going.
We all know that 18-21 year olds are not thinking about their mortality. Hell, I didn't worry when the swine flu ripped through (and I wasn't 18, lol). These kids are going to party it up, get VERY CLOSE, there will be tons of drinking (lowers immune system). Worse, they will be coming from EVERYWHERE.
Yes, they are young and strong, but that doesn't me they won't catch it and serve as vectors when they return home. I cannot think of a worse time for people to be congregating like this. The Zoomers want the Boomers to die off so badly. I guess this is their chance. Will Tampa become the Wuhan of the West?

Re: Coronavirus discussion
I think most will have more problems because they not getting medications or having a hard time. And if they ever lock you to your house, high chance way more will die then the virus it self. Because most doctors will be in a house too, right? Another one if supply is cut then most will die from having no food. So my personal assumption, this alone will kill more people then the virus it self.
In this video bill gates say if we do a really good job on new vaccines, we can lower people population.
https://youtu.be/cbgjCO7gdPM?t=455
Now i see more and more people talking about the test they will be giving for corona at every CVS and Wallmart, is connected with bill gates De-population agenda. So I understand why people stock up on immune booster and trust in that first then some random person poking new vaccine into you and you end up the one who die. Even at work people talk about it openly about all this. I work over 10 k people job and it seems it becoming more stable, i dont think we will be shutting down any time soon but i ll keep you guys posted. And most people think its something more sinister then the virus itself. Could it be we all being played, feared and messed with?

I know you won't be getting a Covid vaccine when it's available, and that's your right. But please don't try to convince others not to. You may quite literally be responsible for killing someone.

Listen i dont believe it too. But there talks about that and bill gates cant hide what he said, it is done. no matter how much they try to make him look like in best light. People got to be careful of everything happening everywhere. Sure its might be conspiracy but if your specific town and all get sick while other towns are good you might remember this subject. What were the original USA Indians given to keep them warm? No one want to believe this none sense even me but its a double sword and can happen to anyone. They are the masters at it, and i am not convincing anyone anything, its been done before and to say this shit dont exist is going in blind. Just to be carefull is all i am asking, is you see something suspicious, go to another place to get checked out. Keep your eyes very open. because i think its a good thing to get tested but we all know that manipulations exist on all levels. and i am not saying this is it, dont go get checked.. heck no. i am pro getting checked on something serious like that because i sure dont want to meet those who infected and infect me or you but black hats are everywhere also so you have to understand that, as well their are the good hats who truly want to help. even better make sure you know someone that legit and works in those places more info of what the heck is going on. if to secretive i would advice going to another place to get checked out. this is to be objective and see the bad site of part that way you dont get that warm blankets Indians got. Me personaly if i have to and i will get sick, for sake of humanity i will get checked 100% that other humans can survive. I am starting getting people i listen and videos, this is very serious. Also read the list whats in vaccine as well, if its good it should not contain all the crap in it but only for covid 19. kinda be mindful and pay attention. this is indeed some bad times we living in. i already wiped all door knobs and a bunch of other stuff, and have not been out shopping. Just only problem, lots of people where i work and wish none of them get infected, that would be real problem.Pete2000 wrote:This is not the time to spread crazy conspiracy theories. Re: Coronavirus discussion
Hiya all,
I posted this in the wrong forum and would like to post here. I don't want to interrupt the flow going on. It's just my thoughts on all of the panic going on:
We are all indoors, hunkering down, terrified of this ghoul that is coming for us. We can't fight it or flee so we become paralyzed. And we READ: all of the predictions, the statistics, the BAD STUFF. It's GONNA GET YOU! and when it does, you're a goner. Done.
I would encourage everyone to look for more content like this: https://thehill.com/changing-america/we ... vered-from. This publication leans a bit right, bit even it is being cautious on the subject.
The thing is, this virus didn't take everyone out. The media is not talking about all of the people who TESTED POSITIVE! but then went on to have some mild (or maybe slightly severe) symptoms and recovered, just fine. And now they have immunity. Yay.
Yes, this virus will sweep through the population and target the old and already sick: The majority of Italians who died were in their 80's and 90's. No one wants to die, but, at that age, it isn't a matter of "when" so much as "what." Here in America, most recently, a 64 year old woman with Emphysema (many Italians smoke and that was a problem too). And an 80 year old man who was already ill. I have two auto-immune diseases. If I succumb, Oh well. I thought I was going to die three years ago. And while we are dealing with this threat people are going to continue to pass from heart attacks, cancer, the flu, accidents - all of the other stuff that - by some magic - allows us to go to work, and only buy what we need, and make plans for tomorrow. Yes, this is an immediate threat, but so many of us are responding badly that I can't even imagine the "collateral damage."
It isn't that we have lost all perspective. We didn't have any in the first place. I encourage everyone to Google "China, Wet Markets, Wild Game, Bats" and take a look at the interesting ways these superbugs get started in the first place. In my opinion, it helps to focus on subjects that explain rather than just terrify. Every one take some big breaths and think about not looking at your news feeds more than - say 5 times tomorrow. I know what it's like to spend your entire life being afraid. In that regard, I wish I could have a "do over"

These Live "Wet Markets" have been responsible for more than our present disaster. I don't know why the Chinese government has not intervened

I think California just made similar announcements tonight as well.
I'm a Server for Cheesecake Factory in Raleigh and even though we have yet to fully shut down, North Carolina is starting to do the same or on the verge of doing so, but I believe we are no more than 100 people (or 200) in single gathering. Right now at my restaurant guests have to sit at least 6 feet apart, and sat at every other booth. Management is just beginning to run shifts with about 1/3 of our usual staff (so instead of 15 servers on the floor for example we are running with 4-5 and there are 76 servers alone on staff). Sales are down 70% this past week. Only two small sections will be opened starting on Monday, although I would not be surprised if we only limit number of people only when it is mandatory to do so. This is going to hurt so many people in different industries- it's is already hurting people. And that bill that was passed in the House to pay workers who can not work due to being sick or workplace shuts down, well, about that
I have also heard that malls and restaurants don't apply to this gathering limitation here in North Carolina, but even are managers are unsure of if that is true of not. I do know today we were opened and did not limit guests but did have half staff (I did not work today but I was told is was a basically empty with few guests here and there). I don't know how strict they will be in making sure the gatherings are limited to however many the state allows, but it seems a lot of bars and other stores are not enforcing any gathering limits. We could be the next Italy in a week or two
And I saw the CDC late Sunday evening said they recommend no gatherings of 50 or more people for the next 8 weeks! I'm not in panic mode, but I am sure paying attention and getting prepared (2 weeks supply of food and basic needs in case we have to stay home). But what I am in a panic about is I am basically without a job, like so many others, at the moment.

Re: Coronavirus discussion
I'm a quality tech in manufacturing. I wonder when or if factories will be shut down? I'm getting frustrated with the way our managers are handling this. We had a meeting Friday to discuss the virus and talk about any concerns, yet they had 50 people crammed into a small room for the meeting. I refused to go.
They are not doing any extra cleaning either. I told them they should hire a temp to at least clean all door handles, light switches, machine switches, etc.
I'm afraid at some point I'm going to have to just take care of myself and stay home. I'm off now for a week on vacation, but I'll have to decide next week what I'm going to do.

WOW @metalmamarocks, smart thinking. I am finding the “one day at a time” thinking to be a bit helpful for managing worry. Since we have no effing clue what can transpire a week ahead! Sounds like you should be in charge of that meeting next time and do it YOUR WAY with space between workers (2-3 ft!) and cleaning stations EVERYWHERE for personal hygiene where safety stuff is?
You sound like a smart one and I hope you are not touched in any way by this virus! So glad you didn’t go to that meeting!

Confession. I've been a doomsday prepper off and on ever since my kid's daddy and I saw the movie The Day After (coincidentally this movie came out the same year Costco opened)in the 1980s. Prepped for bird flu around 2005. Did it again about 6 or 7 years ago. So I've been practicing for this for a long time and now that it's here I don't like it.

I'm right there with you HH! I lost over $500 dollars this weekend alone. Looks like my restaurant will be going pick up only starting tomorrow or Wednesday (I'm a server so no shifts for me)herbalhippie wrote:Found out earlier my job might be in temporary jeopardy. I'll find out Wednesday.
My mom also came home early from work today, so they could clean where she works. She finds out tomorrow or Wednesday if they will be closed
Is there any talk or any thoughts of a community forum "help and donation" thread on this site? Kind of like the old sub reddit where people donated kratom to those in need. Things, I fear, are going to get much much worse. People who live paycheck to paycheck, week to week (or shift to shift for people in service industry) may start being in serious need of food and other supplies very soon. I'd be willing to help others if I have something they need and have no funds to get basic supplies. I am lucky to have a decent amount of credit space on my credit cards so even though I'm not working, I can buy food and kratom, etc on my cards. So I would help someone in need (kratom, maybe send a few $$ through venmo to buy food, of course there'd have to be some type of system to verify things which I don't know how that'd work)
This was just a thought. As each day more things are shut down, I imagine a lot of people will have trouble getting what they need. Best way to get through this is together.

I got my first credit card in many years this year because Costco had a computer I wanted on sale and my tax refund wasn't due for a couple weeks. Asked for a low balance one. Got my computer and paid it off shortly thereafter. So I had a small card for buying supplies and I saw the writing on the wall and didn't have to last minute panic shop except for a few things. I'll be ok if I'm stuck at home for a month I think. We'll see how it goes. Might be a blessing in disguise seeing as how I'm in the high risk group, huh?
On another note, my son-in-laws mother posted on FB a little bit ago a video of an opera singer in Italy on his balcony singing to his neighborhood and I just bawled all the way through it.

Re: Coronavirus discussion
Just got word to cease all 12 step meetings, no matter how many people or how far apart. We will be learning how to be helpful to addicts that are still suffering ONLINE. Lots of new opportunities for learning. But everyone yesterday was 3 ft apart and still incredibly grateful to have a place to talk to other people. Especially about where our heads go during isolation (most of us did plenty of self imposed isolation for years). That constant, nonsensical, unhealthy chatter never stops for some of us. I’m pretty worried about a lot of people I love.
Finally finished trying to find TP and disinfectant stuff today. And got more peanut butter and some nice linen style napkins for as$ wiping if necessary, Got enough dog food for about 2-3 weeks (Mom has a shih tzu). Like herbalhippie, I’m an experienced preppier on hiatus. My ex husband has the warehouse full of TP and the 25 year butter he gave me for Christmas, the bags of rice and beans, rotated all these years. I’m so glad I didn’t hang around JUST for the TP guarantee! LOL
My chronic pain responds to anxiety by getting worse, so I ended the exhausting trips to stores by getting my toenails painted in a tiny place that should probably be closed in our pathetic mall. My favorite Vietnamese friend was SO HAPPY to see me (a customer!).
We are told the (various 12 step) meeting venues are closed until May 31. I don’t like meetings and I don’t particularly like people (I prefer dogs, cats..), but I definitely felt like, “that’s it until it’s over” when I pulled my car in for the night.
I’m just sharing about how it is here. NOT preaching 12 step AT ALL. That’s just what I do. Helping others helps ME.
That opera singer in Italy really does hit home. Thanks for pointing that out. It’s so easy to forget this is NOT some local, BS, hippie California stuff. It doesn’t feel possible to be GLOBAL. I guess I can’t think that BIG.
Please keep sharing the information on Cheesecake Factory and all of the other challenges. There’s lots of cool stuff to learn coming from this, I just know it!

Thanks for being a part of today's solution!

That video is great! Thanks for sharing. I'm a 3rd generation Italian from New York so the Italy situation hits close to home. I only have some distant relatives still in Italy that I have never met but it is really uplifting to see a community helping each other and doing these things in difficult times.herbalhippie wrote:Bless you for thinking like this.MikeEdoessomething wrote:herbalhippie wrote:Found out earlier my job might be in temporary jeopardy.

I was adopted at birth and my adoptive father was Northern Italian, his parents came from Italy in the very early 1900s. So, I was raised in an Italian family. My heart is there too.
Here is the video.

Same here for the next two weeks (at least). Our state has 105 cases (mostly in the Chicago area), and our county has 4 cases (one person already sent home). Sangamon County (where I live) is very rural. I'm wondering how our outbreak will look compared to places like NYC (or even Utah!).herbalhippie wrote:State of WA shut down. Are all of the rich and powerful fleeing to a remote neighborhood near "Us" I'm wondering? Maybe I can finally get Lady Gaga's autograph

My daughter ordered one off Amazon about a week ago and is unsure she's going to get it because they're out of stock. She promised she would get a sink sprayer to have just in case. Not as elegant, but pretty much the same.MetalMamaRocks wrote: I always wanted a bidet!
If I didn't have enough tp I'd probably get one myself.
Maybe I should.
Funny story. In the 1970s there was a bar near work we'd all go to occasionally. In the women's restroom, they had a bidet and this was back when no one had ever heard of one before. That restroom got a LOT of use!

To anyone looking at lockdowns, quarantine, and being out of work without a paycheck. You need to go ahead and contact your mortgage company, land lord, utilities and so on and see what they are going to do for you in this trying time. This is a world wide disaster, and measures will have to be taken by these companies to reflect that. I mean they should anyways, you wont know until you ask.

Well I'll tell you. I am lucky that I still have two boxes of diapers. Not from panic buying, but with a baby you go through a lot of diapers. Now I cant find any diapers, which I wonder why people are buying them like the toilet paper, I had to go to three different stores to find wipes.Greyfeather wrote:Yes! That's how I like to clean. Anyways once those run out, and if I cant buy anymore, we have 20 cloth diapers as a last resort. The real problem is finding wipes.

I've seen some good recipes for making your own wipes out of baby wash, boiled water and baby oil. You can get some kind of a container at the dollar store to put these in. You'll need to find paper towels though.
I'll see if I can find a recipe when I get home from work.

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to read that Larry Hogan, the governor of Maryland, has banned evictions and utility service (including internet and phone) cut-offs during this crisis. As a resident of Maryland, this news was quite reassuring. Similar bans are needed nation-wide.Marcussk wrote:To anyone looking at lockdowns, quarantine, and being out of work without a paycheck. I do wonder about landlords of one or two properties who need the rent they collect to survive. They're also going to need help to get through this.

I'm at of work for at least 2 weeks. Here in Raleigh they have said they will not cut off water or electricity, but here's my question: will people who can't pay now have to pay back the bills we miss? This is going to set so many people back. It's great what they are doing like which you mentioned about banning cut-offs, but afterwards, people will be playing catch up big time.Quercus wrote:I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to read that Larry Hogan, the governor of Maryland, has banned evictions and utility service (including internet and phone) cut-offs during this crisis. There are a lot questions yet to be answered. The government is saying they are going to give people a check within the next 2 weeks to help people out. We don't know how much it will be or who will get it, but let's hope they do ordinary people like us right for a change.MikeEdoessomething wrote:I'm at of work for at least 2 weeks.
