In theory, I am in favor of decriminalization of all substances- the government shouldn't have a say of what you put into your own body- but I wonder how it would work in practice. I wonder what they define as "small amounts". You could have a tiny gram bag of fentanyl for example that would be enough to overdose and many people. I wonder how law enforcement feels about all this.

Excellent points, Oregon is being used as an experiment, a guinea pig, by George Soros and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) who funded 110 from New York City... like you say, the idea sounds good, but with all ballot measures the devil is in the details. This one sucks!

I unfortunately had to OPPOSE 110, and join my friends in the largest recovery groups: Oregon Recovers, and Mental Health Association Of Portland... in opposing this bullshit measure which offers NO treatment beds for addicts. It's basically a revolving door, you get a $100 ticket for possession 1 gram Heroin... and you get a "appointment" with a Counselor which is optional. I lived in a relatively small city in about 2015 when the fentanyl came. Every week someone else overdosed and died...just on my block. I didn't live in the greatest part of town but still. It's extremely dangerous...you only need microgram amounts to kill you if you take it intravenously. Literally a few miniscule specks/crumbs; you can't tell it's there unless you test it, and no heroin addict is going to do that. I think it's the main reason police started carrying narcan all the time.

You should check out the UK and some other countries, they have legal heroin, but it's a program you have to qualify for. You go to a clinic three times a day and inject safely in a clean environment. It's all very controlled. It sounds super liberal, but in essence it's no different than the methadone and suboxone programs they have here.

I have to disagree with jailing people for being addicts, there should be a different program they go into. They don't deserve to be locked up with little or no medical care, and in the same place as violent offenders or people convicted as sex crimes. At the same time, I don't know how much good treatment actually does..the majority of people relapse. Don't even get me started on AA and NA.

I agree jail is not the answer for addicts and jail does not save lives. The entire AA and NA programs are a joke as well. The whole recovery industry needs an overhaul.

What Oregon is doing is basically what Portugal has done for the last 20 years and it's worked remarkably well for them. Drugs use and death have significantly declined, so has crime.

The bible belt is tough too buddy, alot of people are much more liberal when it comes to drugs than before...but still not much progression. Athens is one of the more liberal cities in Georgia, and Atlanta is pretty liberal these days but the rest of the state still hang on to very close minded views on drugs and drug addiction.

Not all of it since much of Iowa is farming, but the eastern side by the Illinois border is definitely in the rust belt. Just a bunch of ugly and crappy run down cities with abandoned buildings and grey skies.

The "drug war" is an abysmal failure and only amounts to more revenue for treatment facilities (who would still make plenty if drugs were decriminalized) and states. Its bullshit and drugs need to be decriminalized across the board. Either that or illegalize the ones that are even more dangerous for the sake of "public health." Like state troopers, who are so very important to fund but essentially do nothing except sit on highway construction sites with lights flashing (they don't make machines that do this?) and stopping those evil speeders! Yeah, what's the point again? Speed limits are so important that we need a whole clan of fuckers to try to thwart it? Seriously?
