Nextdoor.com - recommend!
Hey, I have been posting on nextdoor.com for awhile now. It allows people in the same neighborhood to communicate with each other, and some types of posts are shared with a larger area.
Posts can be about people alerting neighbors about break ins and posting video pics of the culprits, license plate #s, etc.
Some posts are like craigslist, news of garage sales or particular items wanted or for sale.
Lost pets are a large part of the posts. Tons of dogs and cats are lost and found.
Currently I am trying to catch a stray dog and various people have reported his whereabouts, for example, noting time and locations of sightings, he's been around for about two years, borders of his territory, who leaves out food for him, which neighbors and dogs does he follow from a distance, is he getting skinnier, etc.
Some people post news and current events, pictures of the full moon or beautiful sunsets, reviews of new restaurants, sometimes stories, political legislation, advertise busiiness, looking for recommendations of all sorts, can you identify these bugs or plants, etc.
Some posters are negative, and I just mute them so their posts don't show up, others I counter with aloha and hope they'll change.
Use it every day.

About once or twice a year I get a letter from whoever started a group for it in my area. I just toss it, those people have never said hi to me, I know 2 neighbors, and that's enough ha-ha. That said, the idea is nice I guess, it's just not for me.

Out here in Los Angeles, we don't get an option to hate our neighbors. It already comes stock. I am kidding, sorta.
We don't communicate with each other like in other towns that I have lived. Santa Cruz and New Orleans for a year each. At least you get an invite for that loud as fuck party with the shitty band, warm beer and ugly girls that the cops came to break up because of an 'anonymous' call.

I’m trying to figure out what a “thick pigeon accent” is?
I enjoyed Nextdoor but I got kicked off (permanently) for using the word “crap”.

In Hawaii because of the varied cultures and ethnicity there was made a melting pot of languages and the result is a creole type we call 'pidgin english.'Sassysquatch wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:58 pm I’m trying to figure out what a “thick pigeon accent” is?![]()

Someone posted security cam footage of a guy ringing their doorbell at 3a with a large machete. Their garage light was on and the perp is just pacing with his knife, rings the bell, then goes away.
Definitely useful site.

Just found a feature which pops up a map with people who can assist with various stuff, mostly listed are those who are willing to grocery shop or run errands for people who are homebound.
I must explore this further and possibly volunteer as a dog walker.

Re: Nextdoor.com - recommend!
Several different neighbors noticed a person sitting in their car on the side of the road near our complex. There would periodically be a change in cars (rotating 3 cars) and occupant around the clock.
Someone asked them what they were doing and was told they are police or FBI and a unit in our townhouses is under surveillance!
Wonder if true or not, but strange things happening around here.

I was skeptical about using NextDoor when I got the invite years ago. But I'm glad I gave it shot especially with the Rona the past year. There will always be a barrage of complainers and general BS, but its been helpful with finding vaccine locations and openings. Still on the waiting list for that! If there's a police helicopter in the neighborhood, you can bet someone on NextDoor knows the reason why so its my go to.

nextdoor.com is a refuge for small-minded paranoiacs who are still -mentally and socially - living in middle school. It's a Haven for bullies, gun-lovers and people who won't take care of their own pets.

Re: Nextdoor.com - recommend!
Damnit friends!! I have been trying so hard to not to post but this is a sample of one of my Nextdoor posts.
It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to not prank around a little bit with this. There are too many open opportunities here for fun trolling.
Man holding odd device out of car window. Yesterday as I drove down my street there was a man in a large white suburban in front of me holding a strange device out of his car window with lights on it. He was driving slow and pointing it at all the houses. He stared right at me and looked rather sketchy. It appeared that it could’ve been a gate opener or car clicker or a drone or something. I really couldn’t identify it. It was like he was scanning houses or cars or something. I’m not sure what else to say about it but it freaked me out.
He stared right at me with this weird device out the window and drove slowly by.
Description: white male, around late thirties, black baseball cap, thin beard/mustache, medium to large build, he looked tall.
Person 1
Hair: Dark brown
Anyway, it is fun to read through the post, comments and then the post again to see how everything got convoluted. It's like a game of voyeur visual Telephone. Nextdoor is a great place with the right goggles on.

Sure, there are a lot of bigots, but I just mute them and look at the relevant stuff. Dozens of lost dogs, cats, ducks, birds, and turtles have been lost and found just in my area.
Anyway, it's moot to me atm, my new home location doesn't have a nextdoor group yet.

I agree, there is a lot of garbage to sift through but didn't know you could mute people! The pros outweigh the cons in my experience and I've been able to unload some items after Spring cleaning!

you can also hide a topic so you won't see it again.
