Where do you want to travel to?

Post by StringThing »

I've always wanted to go to Japan. Planning a trip and I'm trying to figure out where to go.

I'm not especially into anime, but something about these types of streets is just appealing. There's lots to look at, lots of people, all sorts of businesses and homes (because of the lack of zoning) and I am absolutely a sucker for clean city streets with lots of food to look at.

Also looking at Rwanda or Turkey or other African/Middle Eastern countries. I have been to eastern Asia before so I kind of want to go to another continent and experience something drastically different. Not interested in western Europe at all because I feel its too similar to American culture and most people would speak English there anyway. New Zealand might be nice though.

Where would you guys go, if you could go anywhere? What would you eat, if you could eat anything?

Japan I’ve always wanted to visit it. Especially Kyoto the old capital. I do love anime but just like tv shows only certain ones, and am just a big fan of Japanese culture in general. I’ve been wanting to make a trip since i was a child watching late night anime.

Kyoto is so gorgeous. I'd love to visit.

America isn't ancient enough if you ask me.

I love temples. I love mossy stone. I love wooden gates. I love seeing architecture that isn't just carved blocks. I love forts, especially ones that are only reachable by boat. I love weird disgusting foods invented for purposes of preservation.

In Kaohsiung I went to this quiet temple by the seaside that had wooden floors. In front of the altar, you could see where monks had kneeled for centuries, slowly wearing down the wood. I kneeled down in the same spot. I don't even know how to describe how it made me feel but it was pretty cool yo.

Have you ever seen From Up On Poppy Hill? It's a miyazaki movie.

There are some AMAZING 'town' scenes in that are stuck in my head forever. Especially a particular bike scene. Here's the trailer if you're interested.

The type of anime I don't like are the fighty shonen type ones where they announce the names of their attacks and consistently reveal hidden powers they didn't know they had. Recently watched Food Wars and it was, well... it was Food Wars lol.
