Honing my tea making skills...

Post by KrateAndVape »

Honing my tea making "skills" for when I receive Wot's Crushed Leaf 6-pack. Then the real fun begins :D

5 grams per 8oz water of Red Maeng Da Crushed Leaf from The Greenery.
I let the leaves (15g total) soak in a couple cap fulls of lemon juice for roughly 15 minutes while bringing the water to a boil.
Brought water down to a simmer, added crushed leaf.
Let simmer for 12-15 mins, stirring occasionally.
Strained with a coffee filter inside of a mesh filter for extra "safety" and durability. No mess.
Let cool. Refrigerate for "iced tea". Haven't added anything for flavor yet.
Image
Color looks more "copper-like" in person. My camera and lousy lighting makes it look a little darker than it actually is and also makes it look cloudy.

That's a lovely looking tea.

Does the tea taste as bad as kratom in an inch or two of warm water? :?

When I make tea (very rarely lol), I put honey in it. It makes a world of difference and is a great alternative to sugar. Honey masks the kratom taste and makes it delicious. Not only that, but honey has some pretty nice health benefits when eaten in moderation.

I personally don't think it does, HH. I could drink it "straight" if I had to. But you can add whatever you like to mask the taste and I've gotten to where it's downright delicious (for me, at least). In the past I've added cloves and ginger. Spicing things up a bit (where's the fire emoji? LOL)! Usually, honey or sugar is enough to satisfy my taste buds. The great thing about Kratom tea is you can actually enjoy your Kratom dose, with just a tiny bit of effort. I go through phases with making tea. Until a few days ago it had been several months since I made any. T&W is my primary method for consumption. But lately I've been in the mood for tea. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it

I can handle the taste, its the goopy grainy texture of t&w that gets me. I used to make pod tea which also tastes fairly awful, but it definitely becomes enjoyable, the whole process of preparing the tea. I can see getting back into it

You just gave me an idea. Kratom chai. Cloves, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, peppercorns, cream, turbinado/brown sugar.

If you decide to try that, HH, please let me know how it is. You've reminded me that I've also used cinnamon sticks in kratom tea. Pritty pritty good :P

Glad to see this post, I would have chimed in sooner, but I had family business and it was out-of-town. That's a nice color tea, the range of colors that I've found from my too-many-to-count batches is this, from crappiest to best: , yellow, yellow-orange, orange, copper, orange copper, red copper.

I'll see if I can find some tea shots, going from yuck to mmmmm! ;)

yellow - https://imgur.com/y0B6NK7
yellow-orange - https://imgur.com/YiullGi (this wasn't the final color, but it shows what color would be bad if it were the final color)
orange - https://imgur.com/lKfSkSj (this is a nice solid base, any red from here just gets better)
copper - https://imgur.com/oPVy7qd
orange copper - https://imgur.com/Q8S1ZSA
red copper - https://imgur.com/nKTCebr

The crushed that I got from my Indo farmer has pretty much turned out copper, at the least. The primo copper-red, is usually from the pricier strains. When I was buying from vendors, every once in a while, I'd get some coppery-red. The yellow there was from ketapang and I've never bought that again. The coppery-red was Krabot's green MD.

Thanks for those pics, Wot. Love them! Omg I remember Krabot's Green MD last Spring / Summer. Good stuff. I still have the Red Horn I got from them last October. Not as good as the GMD - Nowhere near it, actually. In my opinion, of course. I believe I got some Gold Bali CL from them too and I remember really enjoying it. Obviously. Because it's gone along with the GMD. But the Red Horn sat (for 6-7 months) until earlier this week when I began "practicing" because I knew I was getting your leaf. Right off the bat, the quality didn't appear and "feel" the same as the others. The crushed leaves seemed much drier than any I've seen before. When I received your strains this afternoon (thanks again!) that was the first thing I did - opened a couple of the bags and felt the leaf and said to myself, "Ohhh yeeeaaahhhhh, this stuff's gonna' be gooood!" :D I have to work tomorrow, so I'll probably "get cookin'" on yours Monday morning. Can't wait!

Awesome, I can't wait either, lol. It took me about a month to find a good farmer that stood up to my standards. You're welcome for everything and thank you, for your kind words!

I either use raw honey (very healthy for you), or coconut sugar. Coconut sugar has a little bite to it, so I feel it helps a little with the bitterness. I kind of like the taste of Kratom tea. Nice color on that tea, btw.

Thank you. Ah, that makes complete sense... coconut sugar. I have to give that a try. I've never been afraid of a little bite  Thanks for this, Happy Hulu.

I put a chai tea bag in my kratom tea and it tastes good. Haven't tried my own blend of spices but that would work too.
