Heart Burn
I have been taking kratom for about two years. I found it looking for an alternative to pain meds. I never had side effects from it other then occasionally an upset stomach when I took too much. My normal dose is 3.0 to 3.5. anyway, recently I've gotten terrible heart burn. I did try a new company out and I will say the product is very very green. The effects didn't change for me, the heartburn just started though. Anyone have any ideas?!? This is the only thing I have keeping me from heavy pain meds so I want to try some things before I'm done with it. I've done normal antacids but that's it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Kratom can be very hard on your stomach, very acidic.
I take famotidine every morning for it, and keep chewy tums on hand when needed.
I've also found that taking a probiotic every morning helps a lot.

Also staying hydrated will help all of the kratom related side-effects and all of the good parts too. Seemingly to me anyway.

Eat a little snack before you take the kratom, and that will work. Luckily, I have an iron stomach, but when that happens, I do just that and still get the effects.

I'm surprised folks haven't suggested the obvious, but if you are experiencing effects with a new kratom you never had the first thing to do is go back to the kratom you WERE using to see if it's the new stuff.
Kratom is SUCH an individual experience that almost anything can happen, but sticking to something that works is usually one answer (I had a batch once that gave me extreme Diarrhea and stopping that batch solved that issue).

H², do you take the famotidine before or after kratom in the morning? Same with the probiotic.herbalhippie wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 7:50 pm Kratom can be very hard on your stomach, very acidic.

Re: Heart Burn
I take famotidine before bed when I feel I need it (ate a little too much spicy food, for example lol). Or sometimes when I first wake up if my stomach feels off. The time of day I take it varies on the situation, but thankfully I don’t have a lot of heartburn problems so I don’t take it every day.
But if you do take it frequently or in high doses, remember that these H-2 blockers might cause your body to not fully absorb some other nutrients such as B12, calcium, and magnesium. A lack of any of these can cause potential health issues.

Several years ago I was finally diagnosed with GERD, after a cough that the doctors couldn't find the reason for for years. Thanks to a Physicians Assistant, it finally got found
THAT got fixed with a LINX device, fortunately - fascinating and wonderful technology, for those who haven't heard of it, btw. It's basically a ring of titanium-coated magnets above your stomach that expand when you swallow, doing the job that the LES valve sometimes fails to do as we age.
But kratom has, lately, been irritating my stomach. I started having a shot glass of good aloe vera juice immediately after dosing, and that may or may not help, at least it doesn't seem to affect the effects of the kratom. Interestingly, I don't generally feel any distress while the kratom is working, but on days I take kratom (I usually only dose every other day) my stomach is sensitive to other things later on.
Ah well, thanks again for the response, I found it interesting that others are having stomach reactions, so any ideas are welcome! Kratom has been a life saver for me, it helps my osteoarthritis pain tremendously, and I enjoy its other effects as well.

I, too, have GERD but my doctor never mentioned that device, so I need to look into it. Kratom used to tear up my guts terribly. So did coffee. Nestles Hazelnut Creamer powder has a buffer in it that neutralizes some of the acidity of coffee, so I started using it with my kratom. The catch is you have to mix both the kratom & creamer in hot water. It's worked great for me.

My LINX device has been amazing for my acid reflux, if you meet the requirements to get one (can't have a hiatal hernia over a certain size, etc.) I HIGHLY recommend it! It immediately stopped my reflux as soon as I had the surgerypray4peace4 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 2:41 pm I, too, have GERD but my doctor never mentioned that device, so I need to look into it. I've also been taking herbalhippie's suggested famotidine 15 minutes to a half hour before dosing, and it's helping tremendously. I do only take kratom typically once every other day, so I'm not worried about overdoing it on the famotidine H2 blocker - but if you're dosing, say, three times a day, famotidine is NOT a good idea, for the reason that e_poison mentioned above.
