Quitting alcohol
Has anyone been successful in using kratom to help alcohol withdrawals and if so what strains helped?

Re: Quitting alcohol
Like benzodiazepine withdrawal alcohol withdrawal can be fatal, I highly recommend only going through alcohol withdrawal under a doctor’s supervision. That being said, slower batches like most warm fuzzy reds would likely give the most relief, but will not keep you from going into seizures/DT’s.

stop hanging at bars and clubs, don't sit at the bar in restos. if you need to, don't go with friends when you know there will be drinking, or always be the sober driver.
i used to have afternoons off and i'd chill at a new bar that opened and hadn't developed a following, get a coke. couple times a week and after a few months I jumped off the wagon. it's easy when you get to know the bartender, manager, and a few customers.
i only stopped going there because they were upscale and it became a real hot spot and i couldn't enjoy much conversation with the friends i had made.
just my 2cents.

Re: Quitting alcohol
I've been drinking for like 17 years, and have gone through pancreatitis hospitalizations many times. Not fun. I've been more of an abuser rather than an alcoholic (I don't stay drunk for extended periods) so i've never had to deal with withdrawal. Either way, kratom has helped a TON with it. It just takes away my desire to drink. I just completed a month and 3 days no drinking which is the longest i've gone for 17 years. I had to stop my beta blocker because my blood pressure returned to normal.
I attribute it to kratom a big part. Not sure if it helps but if I had to guess, small amounts of kratom could help. I would try to get ahold of small amounts of extract though to reduce nausea and go easier on stomach. If you have any way to get ahold of ondansetron (Zofran - prescription anti-nausea) it helps a lot.

I didn’t really have withdrawals but it did take away any desire for alcohol and made quitting rather easy. I was a daily heavy drinker before that for several years.

Also chiming in to say kratom is very good at suppressing the urge to drink. I quit drinking years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I never had withdrawal from alcohol so can't personally comment on kratom's effectiveness in reducing withdrawal symptoms, but I've heard it definitely takes the edge off.

Re: Quitting alcohol
I think we can all agree that the desire for alcohol can be greatly diminished by taking kratom. I wasn't an alcoholic, nor did I ever have a desire to drink a lot, but I ended up having a mixed drink every night and a half bottle of wine on the weekends and when I started kratom I started cutting all that back.
Nowadays I almost never have a mixed drink (I think the last time was around Thanksgiving but I can't swear to that - oh, right, we did make some eggnog that was potent so, yeah). And I only drink wine about once every two weeks or so. So kratom has definitely filled that desire and gap.
(For folks who have serious alcohol issues I'm not sure how much kratom would help without some counseling for sure).

Yeah, just wanna reiterate what others have said - if you or someone you know has serious withdrawals symptoms from alcohol, that needs to be dealt with before getting on kratom! If it's just sleeplessness and irritability the kratom will help immensely - I actually quit a daily drinking habit almost accidentally by getting on kratom. BUT If you have any form of shakes or confusion, anything more serious than general discomfort, you should taper under a doctors care.

Re: Quitting alcohol -- Sunny, how are you doing?
Hey, Sunny, please touch base when you get a chance and let us know how you are faring with drink!
I am among those who gave up alcohol after I started using Kratom. I wasn't an alcoholic, but I drank every day, two or three drinks without fail (and when I was younger -- I am in my 60s now -- I was a big bing drinker on nights out).
I didn't consciously give up, I just kept forgetting to shop for booze (I don't entertain at home!). When I realized I didn't drink anymore, I didn't try to force the issue because all of my health indicators are better without it!
The one possible concern I will relay is that I did give a one gram dose of rather weak kratom to two different friends who are battling alcoholism and neither of them felt anything from kratom at all!
So maybe kratom hits some of the same receptors that alcohol does?
Neither of them took a whole day's break from alcohol before trying kratom, so probably there was still a little in their system.
I do know that if you drink a whole lot, it takes a lot more painkillers to kill pain than if you don't (I was married to an alcoholic although he ultimately quit drinking successfully).
If a small dose doesn't do anything for you at all, I'd say try taking a bit more to see if it helps, or switching to a different vendor/strain.
(The kratom I have been buying lately seems kind of weak ... I thought this was a symptom of tolerance, but then when I tried some very old batches the same dose gave me the same old magic, so I think perhaps vendors are selling lesser quality kratom now, probably owing to demand).

Re: Quitting alcohol
In terms of using Kratom for alcohol withdrawals, I have a bit of experience with that and I’m honestly not sure if it helped or potentially exacerbated some of the issues. As another user said, the slower the better, but I would recommend a detox clinic if you’re coming off a bender.

Withdrawal from alcohol can be fatal if you're that far gone down with the sauce. Take Burninator's advice and do some in treatment detox if you need it.
I have no idea if kratom will help with the symptoms of w/d, just saying the craving for booze in day to day life is eliminated. And it's not replaced with a different high if you keep your dosage low, say under 3-4g per servings, with personal variation. The feel is cheerful and warm, as opposed to alcohol's numbing the brain and bringing out the emotions.
