Kratom Community,
Normally, I would take care to word this carefully. Speaking truth yet doing my best not to offend anyone. Trying to chose my words so they reach every corner of our community no matter what brings you to us. Not wanting to alienate anyone. Or be on any side. Unfortunately, this isn’t a normal post. This isn’t a gentle reminder, or an early warning.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Kratom is in danger. We could lose our precious tea. Millions of people, lives changed, lives saved, turned upside down. Lives will be lost. Overnight, the good that Kratom has done and all the possible good it could do in the future. A key to an epidemic our own government created. Gone. For no other reason than greed and the saddest part of all? It will be our fault.
Since 2016, even despite our win it has been unsettling, the limbo Kratom has been in. We have fought many county, city, and state bans. We have actively watched all legislature, even seeing places slip Kratom in last minute. We have rallied on local levels, we have actively worked in DC building relationships. Certain orgs may have worked more on a federal level, some on a state level, but the work has never stopped. The problem? The community.
Look, I get it there are a lot of new people in the community. Not everyone was around in 2014 and 2016 or even since then with all the local ban issues. Maybe you’re reading this and you haven’t been with us for even one win let alone our win that made history. You didn’t see us move a mountain. You aren’t the issue though. Right now we have the numbers to stand up, once again, and tell Scott Goeitlib and Jeff Sessions and every other greed driven power that be coming after Kratom, a fuck you that would go down in history books. There are MILLIONS OF US. Even at the 2016 rally, the numbers were high but not nearly what we could pull off. We can win this. Bottom line we have SCIENCE ON OUR SIDE. This should be a for sure win. Why isn’t it?
The infighting. Names in our community that hold authority, who cut down the bigger orgs. Did you know there was a time that the BEA and AKA didn’t work together? Completely separate. Yes, we all banned together in 2016 but for the most part you didn’t see them making statements together. Whatever the reasons, we have now seen them unite in recent months. Not just the AKA and the BEA but also now the KTA has jumped on board. Together they have made a plea, a CTA, a direction that they all feel is our best shot to SAVE KRATOM. You know what I’ve seen?
I’d like to tell you I’ve seen the community unite and that our voice was being heard. That isn’t the case though. I’m seeing people challenging the CTA. Challenging now when we are getting a plea to help. When all year I’ve see people bitch that we aren’t doing enough, or being told to do enough, and now there is a CALL TO ACT. CALL YOUR SENATORS. Danger. Kratom is in danger NOW. Yet only a fraction are calling.
I’ve seen people say they don’t understand why we are being asked to call, or why the orgs are taking the direction they have. Well, please forgive me for being blunt. Again, normally I wouldn’t be so crass, however, it really doesn’t matter if you understand or not. We have highly experienced people being paid a lot of money, who do know, exactly what they are doing. This isn’t one person deciding what to do. This is groups of very skilled people, great minds, that all see the same path. So, I’m sorry if you don’t quite understand but you don’t need to. You simply need to act.
You don’t agree with the AKA, you have a bad taste or personal beef, or someone told you not to like them? Are you still hurt from things that happened years ago? Again, forgive me. However, are your feelings really enough of a reason for us to lose Kratom? In case you are new and don’t know, the AKA is the biggest nonprofit we have. They have the most widely known name, they are backed by the most money. So, if we break this down, strip away all the bs, on a basic level, the smart move is to follow the AKA. Let’s not forget it was the lead of the AKA and BEA that played instrumental roles in 2016. The AKA and the other advocacy giant the BEA AGREE ON WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING. Kratom would be banned right now if not for their involvement. So why the hell question them now?! It doesn’t matter what issue you have with them, it isn’t more important than this fight.
One last time, I apologize, we have no time to tip toe around our issues. We have got to band together and get focused. We have won battle after battle and now we have a war to win. I ask you to put this fight first. Put aside any feelings, put aside egos, put aside doubt, I ask you.. no, I challenge you, to stand up and fight. Stand next to the person you can’t stand and fight, defend your Kratom brother and sister, put aside your differences and unite. Those causing the most issues know more than anyone we are capable of doing this. I’m calling you out. Stop questioning every move you didn’t think of. Stop acting as if you know better.
Recently a more known org fell from grace and the female who ran it has dropped out of the community and for good reason. Yet now I’m seeing call to actions from her. An attempt to once again be relevant. I’m calling you out. Stop. Step back, support the orgs that know what they are doing. Please. You are dividing us, not helping us.
I call out those of you that used to be on board with the bigger orgs fighting for Kratom who have gone and started your own or felt you could do better, choosing not to support them anymore. You, are also dividing the community. Please, stop. We need you. Come back please. We can win this together.
Those of you who feel we don’t stand a chance. I promise you, not only do we stand a chance, if we all band together, our win will be unstoppable. Whether you come to us from the addiction community, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, medical, science, family, and friends. We need you. It’s time to stand up and once again let them know that they have picked a fight against a people who will not back down. One that will not allow the harm a ban would do. Soldiers, survivors, Warriors.
All of this negative aside, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t mention those who have stepped up to the plate. Those helping their fellow kratomite who has phone anxiety, making cheat sheets, sharing vital info and call to actions. Those who have funded our fight. Every dollar donated has gotten us where we are. Without you, we wouldn’t be as far as we are. Those working tirelessly, those doing all they can in even the five minutes of free time they have. We see you, we appreciate you. Thank you. Please don’t stop.
