search function

Post by jrm523 »

Hi everyone!

I am having a hard time trying to use the search function. It seems anything that I type says it is "too common". I haven't had much success searching for anything. Is there any tips or tricks to using search?

(side note - I love this forum and am happy I found it. I don't want my first post to come across as my complaining.)

Welcome, Jrm523! You're not whining; the search function really does suck.

We've tuned it up as best as phpBB (the forum platform) will allow us to, but it's still irritating as hell. So when that doesn't work I use a custom Google search, works like a charm. This is a post about how to do that (it's extremely simple):

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=455#p2744

Hope this helps, and let us know if you have any questions. Glad you could join us!

EDITED TO ADD: Thanks for the fix, E!

Hey jrm, you're definitely not complaining. Information like this is super valuable. I thought I had fixed that pesky search function, but I guess not.

I just rebuilt the search index, let me know if it's any better for you now. I ran a few test searches and they all seemed to return results.
